Stinger 2.0 Theta II Fuel Pump Recall

Last time that I drove the 2.0L and hit it, it felt "less". I wouldn't say that it went "nope" exactly. The sensation was comparing it to the 3.3L, which I always do anyway, noting that the 2.0L while obviously less isn't that much less. But last time it was even less, I felt. Will keep the comparison going, and keep this upcoming TSB in mind. So far, I've heard nothing about it from the dealer.

Mine was acted the same way at times. I ended up having to replace a maf sensor. Seemed to fix the issues until recently. Car just kinda went nope on the highway 2 weeks ago. I had already been in touch with my dealer as soon as there was a whisper about the recall coming. Havent had to do my punp yet but my service writer knows im in line when the fix is in.
Mine is currently parked. Has been throwing fuel rail high pressure code. Can’t be driven at this point on highway at all which is how I get to work so I’m SOL. Neither Kia nor the dealers are any help. All I hear is there is “no remedy”. Bullcrap. I have no idea what recourse I have but this car will be offloaded from my hands as soon as it’s fixed. I have no desire to see what happens at 100k when the warranty is up and Kia doesn’t want to stand behind their cars. This is the second Kia I’ve owned but never again.

fascinating. I'll be waiting for the recall letter in november.
Got my "interim notice" and they say that if you get a CEL to pull over immediately and have your 2.0L towed to the nearest authorized Kia dealership as soon as possible. Well, that is advice that needs to be qualified by circumstances. CEL comes on for a variety of reasons. If you don't experience the loss of power and you get a CEL I think that you can make it home and get an appointment pronto if the CEL doesn't go away. There is no indication how long this "remedy" to the fuel pump fubar will take. In other words, Kia has no timetable as to when the actual TSB will come out. I gather that a relatively few 2.0L fuel pumps are afflicted with this so far.

I agree its all situational on the cel. Oddly enough, personally ive had 2 friends that have had to have the pumps replaced. And if you think back a few weeks a member on here had issues too. My issue hasn't resurfaced yet again but im still scheduled for a diagnosis on the 4th. I dont want any issues as its my daily but wouldn't mind a new fuel pump if im on the list

I hope that kia gets your stuff straightened out. Seems that you have one of "those" dealers and that sucks

I just got the Recall notice letter for my '19 Base last week. I'm in no huge hurry to get it done, since we've had no problem for the past 3yrs of driving it. Every once in a long while, the starter motor does crank longer than usual before the engine would start, but it happens so rarely, I've not been too concerned about it.

I'll take it in when school is out and we don't need it as a commuter.

When I go in for my infrequent non-starting issue, tomorrow, I'll take the interim notice in and ask if there is any update about it.

Working on that right now - second time back here at the dealer today. They wanted both fobs, so, I just went and fetched the backup one. I figured that "cannot replicate" would be the answer, and so I won't be surprised. Other sleuthing revealed nothing, everything checks out, go figure.

Oh, and no update on the fuel pump pending recall. I didn't even have to bring it up, they told me.

The trip to look into the infrequent non start issue was worthwhile. They "paired" both fobs afresh, and reset/flashed other starting components - don't ask for details because I don't know. Hah. They said that if this crops up again and seems to get worse to come back and they will delve deeper as the perceived need requires. Their protocol with this job was what Kia recommended when they called and appraised Kia of what our car is doing - hopefully, was, doing. I got in a couple of good launches on my way home. Second one I backed off and coasted up over the crown of the rise ahead, and parked on the downside slope was a cop, waiting. I gave him no joy.

I have had this issue for about a month now. My car completely lost power while driving, and I received a letter around the 10th of November. I took my car to the dealership and was told I had to pay a $200 fee if it wasn't the recall, but the fee would be waived if I decided to fix my car with the dealership. I didn't have much choice but agreed since my car had to be towed. Skip a week, and I'm told that they can't do anything since there's no remedy available, and they have been fighting me about getting an out-of pocket rental when they can obviously provide one. Not only that, but my tech has been a complete dick, leaving me in the dark about everything. Every 2 days, I have to call customer affairs to see progress on my car or to see if I will get a rental since I dont want to be paid out of pocket since Kia is known to be sketchy with reimbursements. Not only that, but my tech is making me pay those 200 dollars now since the year is closing up and he needs to close my ticket and open a new one with the new year coming up.

^^What a crap situation. I'd just hang onto my money until Kia fixes it. Then you won't have to pay anyway. That doesn't answer your Stinger being sidelined. Damnation. For sure, I'd have my car at home, though, and keep looking into possible fuel pump replacement with an independent mechanic, then hit Kia with the bill. I don't know, these are just thoughts Ima sure I'd entertain if my Premium suddenly experiences this issue.

My answer would be "If you haven't fixed/repaired/replaced anything yet and haven't actually done any work on the car to warrant an invoice, and I still don't have my car back, I'm not paying you a dime"

That's basically what I'm going to say today, because I think it's just unfair and plain stupid. This recall is so stupid, and I don't understand why they can just place a temporary fuel pump.

Here's my experience with this issue in case anyone has a similar problem in the future

I have a 2021 gt-line (2.0)

Had a loss of power the other day while just cruising on the highway, randomly it stopped accelerating, I'd try accelerating and it's just going slower and slower where I was barely able to pull over.

40 minutes into my 50 minute drive and far from home....

I tried turning it off and back on, when trying to turn on it wouldn't start, the engine just cranked but didn't turn over

Called roadside and the tow truck showed up 30 minutes later

Towed to downtown LA location after hours and left my keys + a note in the dropbox for them to find in the morning

I call around noon the next day to see if they started or whats going on and they tell me they didn't know anything about it and hadn't checked the dropbox, and that they couldn't even diagnose the issue until 1 week later

I then call around and some dealers said they won't touch anything related to this recall
One (Alhambra in case you're in SoCal) said no problem bring it in, and they can look at it 2 days later
So I had kia roadside tow it to their location that afternoon, they let me know about the diagnostic fee if it ends up not being it and i agreed

Monday rolls around (2 days later) and they confirm it was indeed the fuel pump and it's been replaced, tested it and all is good ready for pickup, free under warranty (not under the recall though since there's no resolution yet for the recall)

Got it back and all is well but now my keyfob is acting up like another user posted where it's not detecting the keyfob sometimes, maybe need to flash it or something maybe ill bring it in

Probably entirely separate issue. Just change the batteries first, then get them to "relearn" the car if that doesn't do it. Ima glad to read of a Kia dealership simply putting in a new fuel pump. Can't believe that Kia would sit on this because of a developing TSB. If the fuel pump is bad, it's bad, simple logic. Warranty or no warranty, depending on miles of course, just do the work dammit.

I'm not surprised. All about being lazy and cheap. They don't want to have to do the work twice...for free. Once when the fuel pump fails before the replacement is out and technically should be under warranty, and again when the recall is ready and the replacement update part is ready and covered under the recall.

Update - they posted the remedy and the dealer claims they have to now wait for kia to send me the parts list and parts which can take "weeks on weeks or up to months" kia is the worst service company i've ever experienced.

I just got the notice for my wife's 2018 Premium which hasn't had any problem... It says to call and make an appointment... Just the thought of taking the car into the dealer for service makes me queasy... I have no intention of being one of the first to have this done... Let me know how it goes ?

I got my follow up notice too. And I have an appointment to check the fuel pump scheduled for Tuesday morning on the 9th next month.
