• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

This new update requires a SD card with larger than 32GB capacity, so I use a 64GB with exFAT, but my 2018 Stinger cannot read the 64GB SD card. Any solution?

How are you getting over 32GB?

Just use the SD card that's already in your dash (behind the access door). It will work.

I believe it has to be formatted to FAT32..it doesnt recognize exFAT.
Windows wont format anything above 32GB to FAT32, I use IM magic partition..its free
I used a 64GB SD card to update mine and it worked fine, but it was formatted to FAT32.
The newest update is 22.1 GB

Took mine to kia for service they did update for free whilst there

Last January I used a 128gb microSD card (in a regular USB adapter). I let it run in the background across multiple drives because it was going very slowly, and I seem to remember a failure or two, but then it completed.

Fast forward to this past week, and using the same card, I tried both manually updating the car and letting it detect the USB automatically, and each time it would take a minute or so to initiate, then as soon as the screen came up with the message saying to keep the car running to avoid battery drain, it would instantly throw an "update failed" message.

So I reformatted my card and am having the Navigation Updater download again. This time I noticed it said the update is 44-45gb, but the progress bar shows 29,707mb (30gb), for the Oct2023 Nav Map & Software Update, so maybe the Display Audio update is the rest?

Also, the Kia update guide recommends 64gb/exFAT for USB thumb drives. It then lists 32gb/FAT32 for SD cards -- I'm assuming this is for direct use in older cars that have the SD slot instead of updating via the USB drive, and that a bigger/exFAT SD or microSD card used in a USB thumb drive would be indistinguishable from a normal thumb drive.

If you have the SD card in your car that needs to be used for the update and it needs to formatted to FAT32, if your car does not have the SD card slot it is updated through the usb using formatted exFAT. Non SD card equipped cars copy the map files to a internal drive and dont require the usb drive to plugged in for the GPS to work, SD card equipped cars read the map data from the SD card constantly while in use.

^^It's been a while since I did an update, but doesn't the kia downloader tool format the usb flash drive to whatever format is appropriate....

Yes, and if your drive is overly large (like 128gb) it'll ask you if you're sure you've selected a flash drive and not your hard drive before it proceeds

With the cheap cost of ssd and usb enclosures, I've got several I use as flash drives just because they're that much faster in writing. Especially when there's gigabytes of data to be written. Imagine a flash drive with 400-500 MB/s read/write (when inserted to the proper receptacle) speed. Faster yet with the usb c and nvme drives.
