Under drive Waterpump Pulley for Stinger GT's

I’ve noticed there’s a lot of aftermarket for the other Lamba equipped cars like the old Genesis coupes and it got me wondering if our engine share any parts.

So far the water pump pulley cross references with a lot of, if not all Lambdas including the NA 3.3 and 3.8 engines.

So my logic would suggest this and possibly many other Genesis Coupe parts might fit our cars…

If your car was a max effort, all-out race car, then this would be worth it to squeeze out every last bit of power.

On a stock car, it won't add much power (if any); probably at most 3-5 hp.

Also, in the description is says it will lower coolant temps but I doubt that since your thermostat regulates the coolant temp, not the water pump speed.

Not worth it unless you want a cool looking water pump pulley.
The smaller the pulley the more spin/flow you will have from the rotation at lower rpm but aluminum pulleys on daily cars in miami or in snowy climates "NOT" recommended because of metal fatigue with humidity and electrolysis.. usually diy race car dudes drill a tiny 1/4 hole in the thermostat for that higher flow so the pulley can creep water into the rad while at idle and not have to purge the system to cycle coolant while waiting.. It's not for daily cars imo. You're better off using a machine shop to lighten the pulley for ya a bit and powder coating it.

And looks like I will be providing the proof of that. So this morning I noticed a whining sound coming from my water pump. So ordered new pump with gaskets. And since, I didn't wanna drive the car, risking overheating, I parked it in garage, and start removing it, once I got home from work. And very quickly realized the pump wasn't the problem. It was my fancy pulley that cracked in several places. I am surprised it didn't fall apart in place from the number of the cracks. Unfortunately, looks like I made another great move and threw away my original one, and now the car will be sitting for couple more days waiting for pulley. 20230927_163815.webp20230927_163809.webp20230927_163744.webp20230927_163757.webp20230927_163751.webp

Oh no!!! Did you Powdercoat it also? Is this the Speedy brand pulley?

yes I powder coated it. I don't remember the brand. I got it from sharkracing.

Welp gonna have to keep an eye on mine ugh
actually, it was speedy brand one. I posted a picture of it on the first page, before I powder coated it. Yea, keep an eye on yours. And I can't even use mine as paper weight now. It's too light:)

So sorry to hear it. But this, plus the minimal gains, PLUS the headache of installing it (needing a belt tool, etc) are reasons why I've never done this on any car. Even back in the day with my 1.8l 8v Jetta GLI with 90 hp - where 3-5 (or 10) hp would definitely have been noticeable.

And the Stinger is my "don't mess is up too much" car - I modded the heck out of my 2 previous cars ('94 Corrado, '05 LGT Wagon), but said I'm not doing that with the Stinger. Even if WERE to "mod the heck" out of it, pulleys would be near the bottom of my list.

On 3.3 you dont need any spesial tools for belt. You just push tensioner with 19mm socket to release the tension.

Well it’s no wonder they stopped selling it and have a new design they are selling now (that only comes in red)

You're right! Maybe I shoud contact them, and see if they offer me some nice deal. But I don't think it's about new design, but the material itself. Titanium pulley....that would be awsome!

did you hear back from Shark??

forgot to say, this was a nice find!! The Torque Solutions pulley is about $100 cheaper and looks the same.

I reached out to Torque to see what they think. They are semi local

My Speedy has hairline cracks in it… ugh

I’ve emailed Shark Racing about it

That sucks. Does look like using aluminum for those pulleys is a bad idea. Will email them as well with some pictures.

The shark racing pulley only mentions aircraft aluminum while the torque solutions mentions “6061 T6 billet” I’m trying to get torque to send me one for test fitting
