Went from no claims in 20 years to 3 in a 2 year span.
careful there. insurance can and will drop you. at the peak of our child rearing years state farm dropped our home owners policy for five years because we had made too many claims for this, that and the other things.

Yeah I know, too many claims can get you canned. We ended up switching from Allstate cuz my next renewal was going to be $650 per month and that's after my accident had dropped off as it's been over 3 years ago. I told them to go f*ck themselves. State Farm was $200+ cheaper per month. Now all we need is not to have horrible luck for at least the next few years .......yikes.

Where does "Red" matter?

In Ontario, there is a very strong sexism bias, where twin brother and sister of equal driving records, would see vastly different insurance rates.

But we don't have a vehicular colour bias, yet.
Way back in the mists of time (when MTV played music videos and Members Only™ Jackets were in style), Red Car = performance, or at least in the public minds' eyes, that someone with a red car would drive it like they stole it.

There is a strong sexism bias still, but in that the insurance companies hide behind statistics. The thing is, we never saw a bump in pastel-colored cars insurance in the early 2000's no thanks to The Fast and the Furious.

My guess is that the insurance bureaucracy moves as slow as the government's bureaucracy. But you ask, "KOTL, which government?" My answer: "Yes!"

53 with no tickets since the mid 90s and I pay $130 a month total for my 22 Stinger GT2 and a 2019 Giulia Ti Sport. Thats with Geico. A good chunk of that $130 is for comprehensive on the Stinger when I look at the cost breakdown.

Its been skepticized that red increases insurance. Don't know if its true or not.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Confirmed as NOT TRUE for me in Toronto, Ontario.

But I can see it being true somewhere.

Im in the U.S., but also i wouldnt be surprised if Kia's were higher to insure here bc of the thefts and fires

Yeah, that american Kia theft problem ... Kia really dropped the ball over there in there cars with physical keys - shameful really.

So that's not an issue for Kia/Hyundai with physical keys where you live? You telling me they only did that on cars for our (American) market?

Exactly.
I am in Canada.

Since 2007, vehicles sold in Canada were required by law to be equipped with immobilizers.

The rampant Kia thefts are exclusively an american issue.

Standard 114 of Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Act was implemented in November of 2007 to enhance the security of cars, thereby reducing theft. Factory installed immobilizers were and still are the mandate for all vehicles entering Canada. All manufacturers have complied.

Damn.........I'm sure that was something that coulda been legislated easily cuz no matter if you are a Democrat or Republican who wouldn't think that's a good idea? But of course, our government had a simple task to do that they failed on.

^^At some point in the last decade it was mandated that all cars have back up cameras. Can you name a single car today that doesn't come with sort form of back up camera (even if it displays in the rearview mirror). Same concept should have been applied to vehicle ignition security.

Two+ decades ago my camaro (4th gen) had that resistor in the key). Not high tech by any standard, but better than being able to shove a screw driver in there to start the car.

Did kia/hyundai drop the ball? Yes and no. At the time they did adhere to curent gov. regulations regarding this matter. Should they have stepped up? Sure, but a penny saved is a million dollars+ saved over scale.

I suppose it's a fine balance between regulation and over regulation. Given how messed up the current admin is, nothing surprises me any more.

Not trying to get political, but do you really think that the two largest criminal syndicates in US history would ever do something that benefits the average citizen unless they could somehow bilk the public out of millions of dollars in the process?

I’m wondering what my rates would be around as a 19 year old? gt2 awd v6.
Switching from a 2014 Fusion SE Ecoboost, to a 2023 Stinger GT2 tripled my rate at 54, zero accidents, zero tickets.
Agree on the grand scam that is insurance.

Not sure bringing politics into the discussion was worth mentioning. Let's face it, there isn't a politician currently serving that is doing the job as envisioned by our founding fathers. No party is exempt from this, the parties are all a mess and honestly need to be put down like the ravening, rabid dogs they are.

I did not serve my country so that my country can be destroyed by ALL politicians who have forgotten that no matter which party they are part of, once in office, they are responsible for looking after ALL of their constituents, not just the ones that agree with them.
My sworn oath of service has no expiration date, if called upon, I would serve again, against all enemies, especially domestic enemies of the constitution.

I will not comment further on politics.

I believe the Stinger was expensive to insure even before the rise in Kia thefts due to lack of an engine immobilizer in certain models/trims. Insurance underwriters have all sorts of data they use to set premiums, and the Stinger made all those "bad" data sets a couple of years ago. In 2021, The Stinger was the #2 car model most likely to be in an accident and it was #3 on the list of cars most likely to have speeding tickets.

The speeding ticket source is still accessible ( Car Models with the Most Speeding Tickets (2021) ) but I can't find the accident article anymore. It's been updated with 2023 vehicles (good to see the Stinger no longer on the list, Car Models With the Most Accidents in 2023 - Insurify ).

When I bought mine in 2021, my insurance doubled (with no other changes besides the car, no accidents, no tickets) and has only gone up. I've shopped around and gotten other quotes, but everyone seems to be in the same ballpark.

The theft issue should be resolved by the software update. If not, then I would probably add on my own, so that if the vehicle is started without my device (phone, bluetooth headset, something), it would kill the power, and leave the car disabled.
I would think informing your insurance provider that you have the software fix installed - documented by dealer of course, would get you a discount.

So I had an interesting experience just yesterday. Was at a stop light, had my windows down, guy in a Tahoe pulls up next to me, tries to get my attention. He said to me, "so that's a Stinger huh?" I said yeah, he said he's literally never seen one on the street before but he's watched videos on them on YouTube.

Light is kinda long so we're talking a little bit. Light turns green we both are going straight, same direction. Get to the bottom of the hill, at a busy intersection and what do I see? What looks like a brand new Stinger, 22 or 23 with no plates on it yet, smashed to hell on the passenger side. I slowed down to look, as traffic normally does and the light changed red and I was turning right. The guy in the Tahoe also saw the accident, he was going straight. He rolls down his window. I said to him, well, now you've seen 2 Stingers.

That lady (Stinger driver) looked shook. I mean, I guess I would be too if my new Stinger got smashed like that and then there's just the actual shock from the accident. Personally, I've had my fair share or shit happen so not much phases me anymore.

from what, a hit and run or she was off the road and into something? it is easy to lose control of this car if you hoon around at the wrong time or without the skill, i.e. didn't know your limitations as a driver. pretty rare for a woman driver to do that in any car, though.
