Hi, I recently got a used JB4 and BMS intakes and put them on my '21 3.3t GT1 yesterday; got everything set up right and started running. I know I'm not the smartest, so hang with me here, I skipped the whole part about 'reading logs' and all that stuff and kinda just went straight for the throat.

Dropped some ethanol, estimated around 30-50% E right now with 93 as filler (all RaceTrac gas), and decided to run some maps. Everything ran just fine, I didn't hear or feel any issues and it felt faster with respect to each map. I also have not re-gapped or gotten new sparkplugs since I am impatient and don't like to wait for things. Was this smart? No, I'm aware. But I did decide to take some logs from some different maps I used.

It would be really nice if someone could either lead me in a direction to tell me how to read these conglomerates of numbers or if someone could check them for me and tell me how I'm doing. I ran and took logs for Maps 2-5 (bad idea I know) and maps 0 and 8 because why not. I'm currently doing an ECU reset because it can't hurt anything, and I don't expect nice things after Map 2 or so, and I assume it will have something to do with my ignition or sparkplugs.

I have read up on some things, and I (think) everything looks good... except ign1-6... all of which are way over the 3 or so that is recommended. Although I have no idea what this means and everything sounds and feels fine, I would like to know what's up, how to fix it, or what to do. Any help or guidance is appreciated!

Did you read up on putting in the right spark plugs? tell me you changed em out right? Wash

that would be a no; I'm about at the point where they need to be changed. Going to call Kia today to see if they can do it and gap my sparkplugs (not doing it myself because I don't want to void my warranty).

Yikes! do not take it to the dealer for a spark plug change with the jb4 hooked up...you will fubar yourself....go to burger or the sponsor here for the correct plugs and gap.....i take it you didnt read anything on the burger or the njb4tech forum? Stock plugs will not work with the jb4.....Wash

yeah no I’d take the JB4 off before I send it in… my dealer also seems chill but those are famous last words. Yeah I know what I need, HKS or Denso plugs (I’m just impatient and not all that smart sometimes so I didn’t do it), they need to be gapped to I think .022-.024? If I’m correct. I know they aren’t recommended and won’t work well as is but even in map zero my timing is all over the place.

Your plugs and even a coil has been toasted....map 0 or any map now is fubar because the stock plugs no likey the jb4 and some folks have bad stock plugs from the get go without a jb4........Wash

Interesting. Is there any way if I can check the packs and see if they’re also not happy? I’ll get some new plugs and slap them in soon

I agree, you probably toasted a plug/coil or two. Pull the JB and see if there are any codes for cylinder misfire, that should lead you in the right direction.

I did an ECU reset and just turned it back on. It’s running normally. JB4 is still connected but on Map 0 and I don’t plan to change that. Will post some new logs tonight or tomorrow once I’ve gotten some miles on it but it’s still running well as of now. Used an external scanner and as well as having no lights on the dash there’s no codes. No misfires or anything. So I might be okay. Won’t speak too soon and will update with logs

Even though my spark is all messed up can you tell if my fuel is okay or if everything else checks out?

LOL go update your firmware to the newest first. You’re probably reading actual timing advance for ign2-6. My oldest log available on my phone from last summer has newer firmware than your current one.

can't believe i missed that... my ignition timing actually looks normal now (mostly)!! THANK YOU! my stock plugs are at 40k miles so they're probably shot even without the tuner, so ignition timing may be a little funky I guess. planning on getting HKS plugs gapped to like .022? i guess? here's my new logs if you wouldn't mind checking one or two, I have maps 0-5 but you don't have to look at all of them. running e30-50 mix. thanks for the help though!!

Octane is never a issue among all your logs. You can use map5 (7psi for all rpms) as an reference to build a map6 now. Simply adding more boost to 5000 5500 and 6000 rpm to make your boost curve as flat as possible.

I'm surprised it's not an issue, never seen people praise racetrac or ethanol in general in this forum, I appreciate it though. do you know of any places I can go to see how to properly set up a custom map? i see where to adjust boost amounts but do I have to adjust anything else? thanks!

Your AFR is spiking up to 13.x at 2-3 gear in your map5 log. Better play with fuel wire settings to settle it down to 12.x. It wouldn’t be that much of a problem for direct injection engine fot now but worth doing so if you’re pushing more boost.

what exactly do i change about fuel settings to get it lower? is there anywhere or any videos or anything to teach me about custom tunes on jb4?

Can you connect the jb4 and give me a screenshot of your user adjustment settings? Scroll down for bits 0-7 and lemme see what’s your current setting first.
