Hey guys I’ve seen some discussion on this topic but still wasn’t sure exactly how to move forward. I’m in California and we’re stuck with 91 octane but I’ve seen people on the forums who run map 2 on the Jb4 with 91 octane instead of 93. For the people who have had experience or knowledge would it be wise to do so? Also if 91 octane seems to be okay how would I end up running e30 blends such as in map 3 and 4
My mods are mbrp catback, bms intakes, denso plugs (.022 gap) and secondary cat delete. Much appreciated!

Run a log on map 2 and post it here.

My experience in southern cali the octane isn’t high enough for map 2

So I stay on Map 1. I use 76 gas.

There are ethanol mix calculators online that take the quantity and octane of your inputs and give you the resulting octane.

Maps 3 & 4 are intended for an E30ish mix, but it's not an exact science. With 91 instead of 93, you could try E40 and check your logs.

Same goes for Map 2: it's intended for 93, but on 91 you could try something like E20. Or just put 2 gallons of E85 in a full tank and see how your timing behaves.

WMI with pure/80%meth or CPI if E85 is easy to access for you. Cali 91 is really sad.

Thanks all for the replies btw I’m trying to absorb as much info as I can. This is my log from 3rd gear and hammering it down fully on the freeway on the 2nd map

Also let me add if this may have anything to do with it that I did not hook up the fuel wires yet waiting for the adapters to arrive to avoid tapping

Quite a lot of timing pull as expected. Go reset ECU and try map1. With this much pull it wouldn’t be any faster than map1 anyway. If map1 still looks ugly then we can try to play with map6 to make a boost curve with less peak than map1.

Stick to map1. Ugly timing.

Look at Ign2-6 -- that's the timing being pulled on each cylinder relative to Ign1. General rule of thumb is that <3 isn't a big deal, and if you don't see any adjustments you're leaving power on the table, but all those 4.5, 5.3, 6.8 values mean you're pulling a lot of timing (knock / low octane).

I'd add 2 gallons of E85 to a tank and try again.

I try to stay away from stations with additives in Cali. It’s just going to dilute the octane even more.

I’ve yet to try e85. It’s easily accessible in my area too. Does it matter if I don’t drive it daily? I work from home.

This is a map 1 run still a little weird to me almost seems like it’s jumping back and forth between decent numbers then to numbers well above 3 in terms of timing.

Did you unplug the ECU for 10min to let it reset? If not, those timing pull you see can be adaptive values from previous map2. Do some map0 pulls after reset then map1. If you even see pulls on map0 then you absolutely need to try other brand of gasoline.

No. If you have E readily available give it a try. You won’t go back!

Equally as bad. Make sure you take the negative off the battery for 5 minutes to reset your ECU when you switch fuel. Then try again.

Tried 2 gallons of e85 with the rest Cali 91 on map2

Cleared up all my corrections on map 2.
Had a few 0.8 but felt good.

Try it out OP.
