Clear coat a new license plate?

Has anyone sprayed a few layers of clear gloss to protect a new license plate? Wondering if it will make it easier to stay clean. Or maybe it will hurt the look of a nice new clean plate.

This is what I was thinking about using:

I wonder if that will block the reflective coating they put on the plates. You know, the red light camera flash?

I just wipe mine off when it gets dirty. I don't think I've ever worried about my plate

An old dodge people have tried for years to defeat photo radar - minimal if any effectiveness. and illegal in many jurisdictions (along with clear license plate covers, polarized screens, etc.

You realize you don't own that plate right? Reminds me how people who lease cars don't realize they're just in a long term rental.

Spraying a clear lacquer on license plates here in our state of NSW is illegal because of speed, red light & toll cameras & also reduces the reflectively of the plate.

Are your plates not glossy already? Every plate I’ve had has been smooth/glossy so just a wipe with the wash mit gets them clean.

Adakah sesiapa menyembur beberapa lapisan gloss jelas untuk melindungi plat lesen baharu? Tertanya-tanya sama ada ia akan memudahkan untuk kekal bersih. Atau mungkin ia akan menjejaskan rupa pinggan bersih baru yang bagus.

I've had the same plate for about nine years on 7 different cars. It still looks good. I protected it with this . . .

We get lots of bugs here, especially in the summer. After a road trip, I'll wash the car fully, but skip over the plate. After a few years i'll swap front/rear plates. Doubt it helps any with the cameras, but why not.
