New to the forum because I need some help on how to go about CPI. Right now I'm looking into purchasing a intercooler and wondering if anyone with a CPI set up could give some advice. Emailed BMS since I plan on using the "fuel it" kit and eventually CPI kit but they pretty much told me to order their intercooler. Any advice or help is appreciated.

Good move on CPI. The reason they recommend their IC is because it includes a 1/8 NPT fitting for the injector. If you go with another companies like I did, you have to drill and tap for that, or weld a bung, or opt to go higher up the charge pipe but that's not recommended. When folks already have an aftermarket I/C and go with CPI, they inevitably ask BMS for advice on how and where to tap. Understand their position with making advice on how to adapt an aftermarket piece that's not theirs. It's just easier if they don't have one to recommend the one they offer. Drilling and tapping is a one-shot deal and messing it up may cost the price of a new IC.

Thanks for the reply. Ya thats totally understandable on their part. Do you have advice where to install the CPI? I've read not good to install by throttle body I've been looking at the mishimoto intercooler and I'm pretty sure I'll have to put a bung on it. What's your set up if you don't mind me asking?

Darren has one of the fastest stingers around..... you're better off asking what is left stock on his car than what has been done to it haha

Haha. Guess I've should've been more specific. When I go with the CPI set up where on the charge pipe will be best to install?

This is where I installed it on my IMR intercooler kit. I had to weld in the 1/8" NPT bung as it doesn't come with one.

I'm literally looking at the IMR site right now. Lol. How you like it? Good choice? You get 600 or 80 core?

I installed the Agency intake before CPI was a twinkle in Terry's eye. I pretty much put in the same spot as @Andy B
The slight difference is the Agency has the 90 deg built in, meaning there isn't a separate connector to to make that turn. It's all aluminum and I drilled and tapped 1/8 NTP. The drill and tap kit is under $20 but I already had that stuff. The aluminum was well thick enough to support several threads so I was confident. Sorry about the 90 deg flip on the photo, seems the portal is doing that.20220414_170204.webp

Thanks man. Really appreciate yalls help. One more thing, whats main reason to install CPI where yall installed it?

Right where BMS puts it on their intercooler.:geek:

Mishimoto has a spot on the intake (hot side)pipe, just drill and tap. I'll be going WMI next year, that's why I went with the Mishi.

The new ones come with it, but it's much higher up on the charge pipe as Darrin was saying. From what I remember reading, you'll have better performance if it's further away because it has more time to atomize? You may be able to request they install bung lower, I'm not sure.

Install is easy though if it's higher on the charge pipe. You don't even need to take off the bumper.20220928_140850.jpg

Idk why my pics keep rotating.

So I’m looking into CPI, but I wasn’t looking to run a JB4. Was wanting just an ECU tune instead. Is there other ways to control the injector?

Big Dave, why wouldn't you want the JB? So many reasons to use it, and none to use something else.
JB specifically controls the CPI with several factors.
* Boost trigger
* Pedal Position
* Ethanol %
* Boost safety features
* Duty Cycle
* Control by RPM
* Boost reduction (if needed)
and several others.
Without one, and just a "tune" you would have no way of logging. No way of telling if you're spraying too much, too little. No way of seeing knock as it relates to lack of Octane. No way of monitoring Trims to see if you are maxing the HPFP. No way of telling if you're running lean or rich. No way of posting the log for review, no way to read, and or clear check engine lights. I honestly can't see buying an expensive controller just for one injector and losing all the other benefits.

I didn’t realize everything it does. Thanks

How's the cpi run with it so close to the t body? Any issues since install? Most have it as far away as possible from there.
