• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Is a throttle controller even required?

Hi

I'm due to receive my GT early next year, and new to driving a turbo engine. I've read a bit on throttle controllers and wondered if they are even necessary on the GT, and see them as an easy way to "ïmprove" performance, and see JB4 as a more "difficult" alteration (and I appreciate they do two very different things). Has anyone bothered to install a throlle converter?

Cheers

Ken

Hi Ken, welcome to the forum & congratulations on your new purchase.

I have an iDrive now called Ultimate 9 & I’m extremely pleased with it, it enhances the throttle response of the car, with multiple options of settings you can set to be either aggressive or sedate & everything in between.
They add no performance gains or fuel savings they just enhance the throttle response under foot.
They are also easy to install.

They are very compact & this is where I fitted mine.

I've had throttle controllers added to a couple prior vehicles, including my last one. I haven't felt the need with the Stinger, even in comfort mode the throttle response is fine. In sport it seems touchy enough for any spirited driving I may need. If I was tracking and/or doing something requiring more fine tuned inputs then I can see the necessity, otherwise I'd say driving the car and deciding for yourself would be the real test of whether it's needed.

Nothing is really required except regular maintenance and maybe a catch can. Other than that, a lot of customers have enjoyed the benefits of a throttle controller. You get full control over your throttle mapping which you can then use for a variety of reasons such as more eco modes or getting the full effect of pedal to the floor a lot faster.
We currently carry the RaceChip XLR.

Best thing about the throttle controller I have is that driving in Comfort mode with the right setting it’s like being in Sport mode all the time just enhances day to day driving & when I’m in the mood to play switching to Sport mode makes it really responsive & fun to drive especially on tight windy country roads.

I loved mine but selling it as I got an ECU tune that does it.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

So, how do you choose which drive mode to put the car in vs drive mode on the throttle converter?

ie: what's the difference between putting the car in eco and the controller in sport versus car in sport and controller in eco?

I predominantly drive in default Comfort mode (Eco mode does not exist for me in this car, I don’t use it) I then over time adjust the controller settings to suit me, when I want to have some fun I switch the car over to Sport & the throttle response is enhanced further.
Simply put its all about what suits you & your driving style.

And if you put your stinger in eco mode and the TC in E1-5 you can put your foot all the way to the floor and not much will happen giving you MAXIMUM economy lol

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
