So I accidentally kicked off a firmware update while engine was on.... During the process it shut off and then tried to restart on its own, but would not crank up. You could just hear it constantly trying. So, I pushed to turn it off and then back on to just accessory only, and the update process was continuing. After completion, my engine will still not crank, just keeps trying. I've tried rolling back to previous firmware, and changing to map 0, and even unplugging the JB4 from OBD connection. The result is the same, just keeps trying to start but never cranks. Has anyone experienced this or know what I can do to fix this? I am hoping that it's nothing too serious, but am a little concerned that now, even with the unit disconnected the car doesn't start :/

why did the engine shut off to begin with? is it supposed to because of the software update? so you are saying that the software update screwed your car up? im definitely not doing the upgrade after hearing this. have you called kia or a service department?

This was an update for JB4 firmware. It was my fault truly. There's a long pop up message that says engine should be off, but I kinda just clicked thru it without reading :X

Calm down! It went pear shaped on him because he had the engine running during the update. And why on earth would he all of a sudden run crying to Kia. That would be asking for a nightmare. BMS and their second to none customer service will get him figured out. You must be the step one “Panic” type of person.

i love pears. one of the only fruits i will eat.
you must be the step one quick lets judge this mfr type of person.
no one said to run crying. i said call. not run and cry. assuming he was doing the kia connect navigation update, you quick to judge type person. kia was very helpful and gave me instructions when i had questions, so it wasnt a nightmare. maybe for the aftermarket stuff, yeah, they wouldnt know what the hell you were talking about. man, take a benzo. im as calm as a cucumber, not sure what in my message made you think i was running around with my hair on fire typing shit out trying to help this guy because its the apocalypse.
man, the world is full of strange..try and have a better day.;)

So you won’t be going off like a two dollar pistol again on this one. ;). Oh and try a right off the vine ripe peach. They’re pretty excellent too.

How about uninstalling the JB4 connections totally? Let’s see if the car would start.

you may have flooded it. Let the car sit for about a half hour. in the meantime, let the JB4 reset by keeping the car off completely for about 10 minutes. then put the car in accessory mode, connect to the JB4, try updating again, make sure its successful, then try cranking the car.

This is exactly what happened. I've been exchanging emails with Terry and he has been very prompt with support, walking me thru diagnosing/tshooting the issue. Absolutely love the JB4 support! There was a puddle of gas in my intercooler piping that feeds into the charge pipe. I have removed the pipes/intercooler and drained out the gas, and now just gonna let it sit for a good day and hopefully everything will be evaporated. I just quickly turned on the engine with intercooler removed, and it fired right up! Thanks everyone for their inputs. I hope my mistake helps others avoid this issue in the future! PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR CAR BEFORE FIRMWARE UPDATES!
