I'm very pleased with my 2022 GT1.

It lacks one thing that I simply can't understand on a car of this price. It lacks a cabin release for the hatchback. I realize that this feature is on the GT2.

Has anyone done it and if so how difficult? I know from the manual that the GT2 has a switch on the same group that contains the fuel tank cover release. Thanks, Don

Since it's not a power hatch, I kind of don't understand the point of have a cabin release. One has to put their hand under the area by the recessed switch on the hatch anyway to lift it. So when would a cabin release be more useful?
It'd be like saying you want a button to barely open your back doors so someone can get in, instead of them pulling on the handle anyway.

If anything, not having a switch means it's one less thing to break, or accidentally hit and then have to walk around to shut it all the way.

The last 2 sedans I have ('12 G37 and '15 accord) both had internal trunk releases. Very convenient. One just has to lift rather than depress a button.

Real world use case. It's raining or snowing outside, the hatch release button is dirty. You get your hands dirty pressing it then lifting.

LIkely can resolve that with stronger gas struts on the hatch. Don

At first I thought the lack of a hatch release in the cabin was dumb. But since my Voyager's release button had been dead for years, I was already used to opening the hatch by hand. In the case of the van, I had to insert the key to open it, so that was an adaptation that was annoying: the Stinger was a yooge upgrade only having to lift up on the release spot.

I can see @JSolo 's point too, a simple walk around and lift anywhere instead of having to precisely trigger "the spot", can be very convenient, which is why I still don't understand why Kia didn't just put a hatch release in every trim.

One of the tuner folks out there can probably reprogram something in the BCM that would trigger an unlock of the hatch when a particular button inside is pressed. Could probably even use an existing button. Say the lane keep button. Press it for more than 5 (or 10?) seconds and the hatch lock releases. Brilliant!

Can we root this car so end users can reprogram these functions themselves!?@#

Thanks for the suggestion. For me it's beyond my computer skills. Don

Bypassed this on the first go around. Easy, if you're in the car and some business brings something to you, you don't need to get out and manually open the hatch.

Our 2009 Pontiac G8GT has such a release as did our destroyed 2016 Chevy SS. Don

No, no, no. I do not want some unwashed hatch slam-downer touching my car.

You make a valid point there Merlin and the Stinger has far more glass at a much more horizontal angle than the Pontiac does. Don
