Turbo protection/warranty

Did the one turbo with the premature wear from poor air filtration actually fail though? Or does it work fine still?
Car still runs fine. I don’t experience any lack of power or hiccups . I know I will start to experience problems though if this isn’t taken care.

Op, how many miles are you clocked in at?

also, if Kia is acting up. Keep driving it till it gives out then honor the warranty whilst taking out aftermarket engine bay parts. Especially since you mentioned car runs fine with no loss of power. Enjoy it till they give out and then get new turbos.

38,833 miles currently. That’s a valid logical point. I wanted to throw my Afe intakes on but my local guys were telling me that may lead to problems faster and hiccups with the turbos. I guess I’ll just hold off and enjoy the stock ride until this situation is mitigated. Koons kia of Woodbridge did try to show me a hand of gratitude by covering half the turbos. Turbos $5k roughly . Half they said $2150 I would be responsible for. If Kia corp doesn’t pull through with the warranty this is my only option.

Kia dealer said the same thing about our Sorento eating oil. stop putting in oil in between changes, and eventually it will cause a problem, and they will replace the engine under warranty. but we have to kill it first, LOL. It burns about a quart every 1k miles, which Kia reports as normal for high mileage cars.
Lol I can’t wrap my head around that…. Something literally has to go wrong for them to replace it despite knowing it’s not good right now and will need to be replaced. Dealerships I tell you smh.

So much for a 100k warranty lol

Since it is clearly a filtration issue, and you're using aftermarket filters, I'm not sure what you're complaining about - it is not a problem due to Kia.

Unless I'm missing something here...

The only thing your missing is if you actually diagnosed the car yourself to confirm that. Speculation and confirmation are on different ends of the spectrum my friend . And every car is different.

I can tell you I've seen that before, and that is damage from foreign-object-debris.

Look at how dirt-tracks spiral down to the impeller - clearly the filter wasn't filtering due to some sort of leak past the filter(s).

The car I saw this on, its filter was not installed properly and had worked its way loose. The engine in this case was destroyed due to grit in the cylinders being ground by the pistons - a complete loss.

Hopefully this isn't the case for you.

I’ll swap back to my oem ones. Sheesh. Just to be on the safe side. I did install them properly if I recall correctly . Pretty simple straightforward instructions for a car newbie like myself.

Didn't you buy the car used? Who knows what the guy before you did to it.

Yeah I did buy it used. The local guys I had look at it said the ecu looks like it was tampered with so probably tuned.

Right, highly doubt it's the AEM filters. One side is definitely far worse than the other, but both sides are damaged. I can only assume SRV isn't paying attention and doesn't realize you bought the car used and have no idea when, exactly, the damage happened. Previous owner could have run without intakes for giggles, or could have improperly installed an aftermarket intake, or any number of situations.

Kia cooperate will pull through, they tend to be more helpful than the dealers in most regards, and if they don't, just keep bitching until they do. your car is under warranty and it should be treated as such.

That’s what my local guys were stating. They checked my intakes and nothing was out of the ordinary. Abused and sold off possibly .

Definitely will keep going back and forth until a resolution is made . Should hear something this week so I will keep you guys updated on the outcome. Thanks for all the help and insights as well.

That's not the dealership.

Approval/denial of claim is always the manufacturer. They are separate. The dealership won't fix it because Kia would not reimburse them. It's literally that simple.

I remember OP making power gains thread via jb4/tunes etc while having concerns.

Lol Staying the hell away from all power gains until I know my car is running correctly. I was seeing all that was out there at the moment but now putting a big hold on that.

I see this all the time. Previous owner mods/tampers with the vehicle. Doesn't do a thorough job and then they get something big that happens to the car. Flashing CEL, misfire, etc. Can't fix themselves, don't want to pay to have taken care of properly. So they just clear the code or clean it up and then offload it to the next dealership. This is part of the reason I stopped buying used cars. Can't trust people.

The specific dealer I went to had a regional director that they dealt with first hand for corporate issues. Gave me the run around and I proceeded to call cooperate myself.
