Hello,

So recently I've noticed more amped up noises, such as crumpling/popping rubber to rubber noises from the corners above my doors. (All 4 doors)

This happened more after a car wash? Not sure how to explain. Sounds like rubbers to rubber noises. Like its constantly raining.

I tried to see if it was a sunroof issue but I really don't see a rattle or indicate the noise is coming from the middle above me.

I did press my trims around my sunroof and heard a few clicking noises which I assume was the Velcro getting back into place but to no avail the popping/crackling noises is still present.

I may assume it may be my door rubber trims?

Thanks for reading and your help will be much appreciated.

Not sure if it's the same issue, but I had popping/ticking coming from the top area of some of the doors when going over bumps/when the chassis was flexing. Would get louder the warmer it was outside. Turns out it was tesa tape that was making the noise. They were ultimately able to fix it.

Quoted from my service invoice (hopefully this is of some help):

Cust/States Drivers Front Door Upper Area has Ticking Noise

Verified concern on test drive with customer. After I had removed the headliner and tightened the fasteners for the sunroof and then put back together, ticking noise above head at left front corner got worse and I could also hear some from the right front corner and from the rear that sounded the same as from the left front corner. This noise is different than the ticking noise from the sunroof. I removed all of the grab handles and the noise was gone. I then removed the plastic strip that sits between the body and the grab handle where they are fastened. I found there is tesa tape between the plastic strip on the body and the tape is loose in spots. The tape is sticky and when the body flexes the headliner flexes and then the sticky side of the tape makes a loud noise. I removed the plastic strip and applied white grease on both sides at the contact areas, put back together, test drove and the loud ticking/popping noise is gone.

Ah glad it was fixed!

My issue was actually the door trim rubbers rubbing into each other.

Used Gummi Pflege on all the rubber trims and the roof rubber trims as well and the issue was gone entirely.

Used it on the plastic parts on the doors where the rubber would meet once door is closed.

do you have an invoice number or something for kia Canada they can’t solve this and not sure this is the correct way to go.

I got this info from another thread, but I used Genuine Honda Silicone grease. Bought it on Amazon. part number is 08798-9013, Shin-Etsu Silicone. Put a very small amount around the rubber trim that's adhered to the car door surrounds, and a very small amount on the rubber trim that's adhered to the door. The noises were completely gone after. Just rub it on there with your finger. A very small amount, basically as little as you can get to coat the surface of the rubber. worked like a champ.

This sounds exactly like my issue that the "dealership could not find" ..... which really means "without removing a single part we couldn't see anything so just added more grease to the sunroof slide"

Great tip!

Would you elaborate on the door trim more?

You mean all around the door rubber trim or specific points?

Lastly, is this the product you used?

yes and yes. There's essentially a rubber gasket affixed to the car that goes all the way around the door opening. and there's another one that's affixed to the door that goes all the way around. both of the faces of those rubber pieces are essentially flat where they contact the door and the body of the car respectively. Rub a very small amount on each and they won't make a sound when the body flexes. Your just using a tiny bit and maybe working it in to 6 or eight inches of the rubber, then get a tiny bit more, and repeat until you've made it all the way around each gasket. basically just need to hit the surface where each gasket makes contact. enough to lube it up, but not so much that it's even noticeable. You can always add more, know what I mean?

do you have an invoice or anything. i need this for help with my car.

This is mostly a DYI solution.

Just use the products that were listed on here and see if it works..

Although some did dampen the trim noises, its still a little bit there. But after adding my catback exhaust, I never hear/notice it anymore.

Well, turns out it was short lived. Noise came back after three weeks. Has a Kia corporate tech come out to look at it. Ended up getting the whole headliner replaced (they replaced the sunroof assembly as well for the other, separe rattling noise). Sunroof has been fine for about 5 months now. Unfortunately the popping noise from the headliner came back after only a couple months. It's very annoying.

I remedied the same noise by using felt tape on the grab handle backing, not grease. Hasn’t come back. It is not a difficult DIY. Wrap the ends in 1-2 loops of felt tape and reassemble. Did this before Christmas and noise hasn’t come back.

the tape the service advisor was referring to is on the ends of this piece around the screw hole. This photo is after I peeled off the existing tape and before I used the felt tape. the factory tape is on the elevated t-shaped moldings on each end.

Is that piece behind the headliner?
How much of a PITA is it to get the headliner off?

Yes it’s behind the headliner. You don’t have to remove the headliner, just remove the b pillar trim which clips into place and the handles which have two screws each. Once they’re loose you just stick your hand in and unstick it, which isn’t difficult. To remove the b pillar you unsnap the scuff plates at the bottom of the doors and then you can yank the b pillar off in two parts.

Ok will have to give this a shot, do you have a link to what felt tape you used?

Amazon felt tape

one tip, once you wrap the ends with the tape. poke a hole with the screw all the way through the tape so you can find the screwhole once you've put it back in the headliner. Also, note orientation when you take it out, it isn't just a flat piece.
