Dec. 16, 2022: I put down my $2,500 deposit and build my car with the salesman. He tells me the order will be put in the first week of January.

That time comes, I called him and he said, “If you don’t hear from me by tomorrow it means it went through.” Cool. 24 hours goes by and my wife and I have a little celebration.

Three weeks later he calls me and says it didn’t go through and feeds me the allotment bullshit. Then goes on to tell me there’s another one coming in that’s a different color. I was pretty irritated and asked why we’re just hearing this three weeks later. He says his wife had COVID and they felt fine but he had to quarantine. I can’t remember what companies and people who suck at their jobs used for an excuse before this.

Ever since then they’ve tried to put in the order continually and get “denied.” I called and talked to the sales manager, who is a complete moron, and she told me they have stopped production and taking orders for the 2022 and they may or may not be making them next year (old news). She has no idea when they’ll decide to make them or not.

Really want this car but it’s still tempting to just get my money back and move on with my life.

What an absolute shit show.

get your money back and find a more reputable dealer

Do a fly-n-ride, make it into a little adventure for you and the wife, that's what I did and paid $500 under MSRP- a very good deal in these crazy days!

If he was forced to quarantine for 3 months then he should consider suing the stealership.

I can't think of a market that isn't a shit show right now. Kia's dealers didn't have the best reputation heading into the pandemic. I can't imagine it's improved.

You could set your sights on an in-stock Stinger as Nybiomed suggests, or look at other cars altogether. Stinger's not the only vehicle in this class, although it's certainly one of the better deals (cost for the performance). There's promising EV technology on the horizon too, if you can wait. Our gas powered cars are going to be increasingly embarrassed as more performance minded EVs are manufactured.

I can agree EV's are performance monsters, but a few things concern me. Lithium is going to be an absolute pain to mine to keep up with demand. Another is battery technology has not progressed enough to make the EV's worth it. Charging infrastructure is also a concern. I for example live in an apartment where charging is not possible. My town also has very few charging stations.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Yes, all big hurtles now and for the foreseeable future. There's a couple dozen (hundred?) EV discussions already on this forum, I'll pass on another. :p

Uncle Joe said he's building five hundred thousand charging stations. Fear not.

Uncle Joe (or Sam) needs to build a hundred more power stations first. Too bad that's largely private industry.

Quarantine doesn't mean you can't pick up the phone - find another dealer

Oh come on stoopid, since when do you ever need the infrastructure in place before you fire-ready-aim a solution!!

After-all, according to the misinformed masses, just need to put a canopy with a couple solar panels above each charging station right!!!:laugh:

I know this sucks for you and I'm only kidding with you but I'm curious to know what portal you use to time travel. ;)

I had a very similar issue with my local dealership. I was looking for a Scorpion in ceramic silver back in July '21 and I reached out to my local dealership. They told me they'd be able to order me one, so I went down there to meet with them, get the order process going, and put down $1k as a deposit. No issues.

A month later I reached out to my sales rep to see if he had an updated status, which he didn't have yet. Two months later I tried to reach him, but I was not getting any responses. Come to find out that he was no longer at the dealership, so someone else got back to me to let me know that the order was in Kia's system but they hadn't put it into the production queue.

Three months later (October) I called again and every time I called I was told that the sales manager was the only one that could access that information, and that he would call me back. I called 3-4 times, but did not hear back from him. Come November, the same deal, called numerous times but not a peep from the sales manager. Finally went to the dealership to get my deposit back, and when I explained my situation, I was told that the manager was unavailable and usually he's the one that would do a refund. I asked the rep to track the manager down because I wasn't going to leave without my money. About 5-10 minutes later, he called me into his office to refund my money and to give me the manager's apologies for not being able to find the car. The coward didn't even have the guts to tell me that in person or by phone.

Soon after, I found another dealership that had the Scorpion I wanted, but unfortunately someone else beat me to it. I did find it at another in-state (CT) dealership, although almost 2 hours from where I live. That experience went realy well and I'm a very happy owner of a Scorpion in ceramic silver.
