So I'm waiting in line at costco to get gas today. This is one of those stations that has 3 pumps per side. Ahead me are all suv's with their driver's doors open. Of course it's impossible to see when when the lead or second vehicle had left.

WHY?!@#

The Costcos around here have sensors and green/red signs indicating if the pumps ahead are free. Also, I just keep an eye out for the cars in front leaving -- sometimes can't see the car at the pump, but can see them leaving. Leaving a bit of space behind the last car can help seeing around also - and allows jumping to the front if the person in back is filling their suburban then going into the quickiemart for payment/food/lottery (which is stupid selfish, but people do it anyway).

I leave my door open, unless I have to walk away from the pump. For what it is worth, I'm not masochistic enough to get gas at Costco.

Leave the door open!? Why? In a Costco on the left side of the island, leaving your door open is just rude because nobody can move up the driveway between the islands. On the left side of any other island, leaving your door open is just asking for it to get clipped.

I've never seen this before where I live. Why would someone leave their door open when pumping gas?

Leave your door open and get robbed.

@MerlintheMad Is your filler on the passenger side? Why would you be on the left side of the pump??

For those voting yes to leaving their doors open, why? For one thing, you realize you're blocking the view for other cars waiting in line to see if pumps ahead have become unoccupied.

@shoe, price difference around here can be 30-40¢/gal. Enough to make it worth while.

At Costco, the left side opens up nine out ten times before the right side: and the hose is generously long, allowing me to hold it up and not touch my car. I'm amazed at how people line up to use the filler side: they must not be bothered to sit there idling while they stare at their phones.

It'd have to be free for me to drive down to the mall and deal with all that BS.

I'm not prone to generalizations, but Costco drivers are right up there with parents picking up their kids at school for most irritating drivers.

True! Which is why I do not go in unless I can pull up behind someone just gassing up. I will not queue up. If it's a zoo I wait for another day.

What kind of monster leaves their door open?! You're letting all that sweet climatized air out!

You want bugs in your car? Snow? The smell of gas?

Leave your door open while fuelling??? So you want it just as cold inside the car as it is outside?

Even if the weather was such that I was driving with the windows down and sunroof open I wouldn't leave the door open while refueling.

My last trip to Costco someone left their car on right in the middle of all the signs that say turn your car off the service administrator in charge of the pumps I told him that guy has his car on he didn't care he scoffed at me and walked off I told the guy Hey maybe you should turn the car off and he got mad at me and seemed as if he wanted a physical altercation so I vacation so I stepped away and said sir it is only a popular opinion that leaving your car running at the gas pump is very dangerous dangerous could cause a fire the guy was very adamant that I should f*ck off and I have never been back to Costco since

Something about lack of punctuation made me cross eyed reading this.

They do that at the car wash near my house. Bonus points for detailing the wheels in the wash bay when all the other bays are full.
