Wax Application

I had XPEL paint film installed at the corporate headquarters in San Antonio so I assume that they know what they're talking about. They said that they wouldn't put film on the shiny, silvery coating on the rear view mirrors as the film might pull the coating off if the film were removed for any reason.

I use a high quality wax on them w/o any apparent problem, just shiny waxed appearance.

What do other forum members do? Thanks, Don

Same thing Esoteric Detail told me when installing my PPF.
I had every other surface ceramic coated.

No, Meguiar's Ultimate goes on easy, comes off easy. Meguiar's makes ceramic but said it more about time between applications than depth of shine. So I'll stay with what I know.

If the ceramics require an electric buffer, good reason for me to stay away, I have no experience with them and don't want to learn on a nice car and screw up my paint. Don

What brand? How long has it lasted? Don

My Xpel installer put the PPF. on the mirro r black chrome and all the black chrome trim on the front end. The entire front clip is PPF’d.) He looked a little frustrated when I picked up the car. He said putting the film on the black chrome was very difficult as it reflected the glue if the film was off the trim at all. He said he had to do some pieces six times to get it perfect.

The rest of the car (and the Xpel) is coated with multiple layers of Zaino polish.

I'm very pleased with my XPEL, I only did the half way up the hood version but for the life of me I cannot find a single flaw. Installer knew his business. Don

My PPF installer said the same thing. I have full frontal PPF to the windshield, but the dark chrome is not covered.

What brand? How long has it lasted? Don

I did Avalon King Armour Shield IX... Super easy to apply, only 8 months in so hardly a long term test, but it is holding up great so far (I did the whole car)

That sounds great, wonder if it's available in the states? Will have to check.

Just checked, seems that I can get it here. Do you have to clay bar the car before applying this product? Thanks, Don

Just ordered a spray bottle of it on Amazon, only $16. Answered my question, they recommend the car be clay bared before application. Car is very slick and shiny but I'll go by their recommendation. Don

It is a good idea, to simplify the steps you can do a strip wash, and a clay towel it, then rinse dry, and IPA wipe down for maximum adhesion
