so I'm planning on either getting a new jb4 or going with a tune. currently, I have a jb4 but I've been having issues with it. EWG wires and also with the o2 sensors whenever I have my jb4 plugged in. cause might be because it is an older jb4. IDK which is why I want to buy a new one. the one I currently have has been a headache and I just want to sell it but I'm also not trying to sell someone something that's broken.

any good ways to figure out if everything is working properly? would a log be the only way to figure that out?

I think, you answered your own question right here. Edit: sorry, didn't read the last part, correctly.

If its an older one, all you have to do is update the 2580 chip for $35.

yeah, that's what I'm thinking also. i was trying to avoid adding it back onto the car because I always have to delete cel codes right before I turn on the car.

is there a way to know for sure that it will be the chip? can I open up the jb4 to see if it has this or not or at least a older version? if the chip works then I would just keep the jb4 and buy the whole cpi and flex fuel kit with bms innercooler.

Why don’t you send it back to BMS and have them look at and or update for you. Or at least contact them with your questions?

I would love to do that. sadly been told to log mainly and then has been a process of them thinking I didn't connect the pins correctly instead of needing a new chip. it has been a process I've dealt with for a couple of months and have mainly just given up on the jb4 honestly.

if I could just replace the chip and it works properly without throwing engine codes or EWG wire codes at me that would be amazing.

Unfortunately the chip is not identifiable. Opening up the JB is 2 min of work with just 4 allen screws. That chip pops right out and the new one pops right in. Older JB chip's weren't capable of the EWG. EWG was a much later upgrade and Burger had no way of knowing that original chip wouldn't work. It's probably the most common issue with EWG to date, especially if the JB is older. All come with updated chips now obviously but for $35, it's way cheaper than a new JB. Once it's running, the CPI and flex kit is hands down one of the best mods.

I get you. is there any way of telling if I have an older version of jb4 by looking at the firmware version it is on? if I could just send it my jb4 that would be amazing. I would get the new chip including fuel wires. then I would buy the flex-fuel kit. BMS intercooler then cpi to finish it off. I've been hesitant because the FSB might not work when I wire that up to control everything

There is no way of telling if the chip is older. I think Terry said something about 2019 or 2018 but reach out to their tech support. The chip is not identifiable so you can't look at it and tell. I'm sure if you sent if off, they would test the unit, put a chip in if it needed and get you squared away. There's not reason why the FSB wouldn't work, there's been no issues with older ones at all.

let me reach out to them and hopefully be allowed to send in my jb4. would save me a huge headache instead of communicating one email a day.

I feel your pain. JB4 is great when it works! I think it was just an old chip. That is why I tend not to buy second-hand things.

yeah, when I first bought my jb4... it was a week after I bought my stinger. I saw that I couldn't buy it off the actual website because I live in Cali sadly. bought the first one I saw for sale on classified before even figuring out they had older versions. I talked to the dude who sold me the jb4 and he did say he sold that one and bought a new one. super a cool dude but I have a suspicion that he sold it for the same problem I'm currently having so I would dislike to sell this jb4 myself and then someone else run into the same situation cuz it's lowkey annoying. works but not 100%

currently trying to justify buying a new jb4 instead of saving a bit more for a lozic ecu and tcu. mainly because I wanted to use that money for the cpi flex fuel kit.

JB4 works great! just work with them to get it all sorted and it will be awesome. worth the trouble.

might need to get some new fuel wires also. the part on the harness that clips into the car broke. it's not loose but it doesn't click in all the way you know?
