According to the epa website, testing doesn't begin until the car is 4 years old. What's unclear is 4 years old based on model year, purchase date, etc.?

Search for "four" - Vehicle Emissions Testing Program - Mobile Sources

Given my car is a 2022, purchased in 2021, does that mean testing will start in 2025 or 2026?

Considering how fücked up the state of IL is, they couldn't even clearly describe this.

Looking up the statute itself, it appears to refer to 4 years after the model year, search for "fourth" - https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/il...apterID=0&SeqStart=157000000&SeqEnd=158500000

Thoughts?

I bought a 2015 Toyota Tacoma brand new February 2015. My first emissions test was due February 2019.

it could be worse like in California. I had to get my Mustang fox body smogged every year there. Pain in the ass.

Supposedly, in California, new cars are exempt for 8 years from first sale.
Doesn't matter for me though, I live in an exempt county.

You live up in the Sierra?

I'm surprised IL doesn't have safety inspections. Given the jalopies I see on the road, I suspect a number of them would fail. Actually it's not surprising... IL population center is mostly liberal, so it would be too much of a hardship for the poor to fix. Why have emission testing in the first place.....

There's a word in russian, драндулет, drundulet, loosely translated, jalopy...

Yeah, Amador county
Whoa! You make it through the Caldor fire ok? Our neighbors hosted some refugees from Pollock Pines for a few weeks. I'm a Camp fire survivor (Paradise) from 3 years ago.

I have always had smog checks every other year in California. Maybe different counties do it every year? But this car i dont need to smog for the first eight years.

Yeah, when the fire erupted near grizzly flat, it was maybe 10 miles from us, but because of the winds, it went the other way. We did have an evacuation warning and got prepared but didn’t have to leave.
Had bad smoke maybe a couple days, but otherwise the wind kept the smoke away.
Are you familiar with the area?

Very familiar. Did many a motorcycle ride on 4/89/49 through Bear Valley & Kirkwood loops. I currently live in Chico since our fire in 2018....but probably not much longer. Kalifornia is quickly degrading into an unsafe shithole.
BTW: We have identical cars: 2019 GT2 AWD White/Sunroof/red interior.

I hear you man. Too expensive to live here and too many idiots. In some respects I kinda wish we had vehicle inspections to get rid of all the junk on the road, seems nobody takes care of their cars anymore.
Our color combo is the best IMHO.

Rolling wrecks everywhere....but tailpipe emissions are politically correct. Says everything about the state of affairs here. All the businesses are closed, masks on but millions of infected pouring over the open border is ok. Insanity.
