Good Surprise Surprise - Buy Offer on Vroom

Well. I sold (traded) my GT2 this weekend. I had entertained both Carvana and Vroom. I am NOT impressed with Vroom - at all. Very poor communication with them when I tried to sell them my Corvette (glad this came before I tried selling the Stinger because it all worked out for the best). HCR '19 GT2, all options including the puddle lights and rear plastic/rubber cargo tray, 21k miles. Perfect condition minus a couple of rock chips on the hood. Carvana offered the lowest by far at like $34k. Vroom offered $38k, but I never went any further with them because of the bad experience they gave me with the Vette.

I had been toying around with the idea of getting an SUV or truck since I don't do even a fraction of the driving I was when I first bought the Stinger. For the last couple of months I have been looking for a very specific variant of the Grand Cherokee - Trailhawk, Hemi, Luxury package, and Driver's Assist/safety package. ~3 weeks ago one finally pops up at a Carmax in Utah. 15k miles, and rare color, too. I ended up paying them to ship it to me in DFW. Did an online quote for the Stinger at the beginning of the month, they offered $40,400.

The Jeep arrives last week, they clean it up and I take it on a 24 hour test drive and they appraise the Stinger. The offer actually goes up from the one I got at the beginning of the month. $41,600. I couldn't believe it. Basically only a hair less than what they were asking for the Trailhawk. Had big positive equity on the Stinger because I bought it 12/2019 when they couldn't get them out the door. Got a loan through my credit union and even after buying the Doug Demuro Carmax extended warranty (come on, it's an "Stellantis" product after all), I still lowered my monthly payments by over $100. The Jeep is significantly cheaper on insurance, too.

I will miss my Stinger a lot. It was the first car I ever bought new, and it truly is a brilliant machine. Unfortunately it just doesn't fit into my life at the moment. I need something to tow a motorcycle trailer, something that I can put the dog in the back of and not worry about, something I can take to my father in law's ranch and not worry about tearing the front air dam off or bottoming it out repeatedly. The Jeep does that. It's certainly not a rocket and no Stinger, but the Hemi isn't bad in a 5000 lb SUV. With the money Carmax was offering and the fact that the Stinger sits in the garage 6 days out of the week, I just couldn't leave the offer on the table.

I'll still be around here some, it's a great community. And who knows, maybe they'll have to try and firesale the last Stingers when that time comes and..

Not a bad choice (I personally steer clear of any Dodge/Jeep products, but not religiously). Cars are a tool, and if the wrench no longer fits the nut it's time for a different wrench! It's why I got the Stinger, wanted something spirited. Resale is still stupid high on these cars.

I don't blame you for generally saying away lol. Fiat-Chrysler/Stellantis have made some wreched cars. Actually, the only Chrysler vehicles I've ever owned have been Grand Cherokees. But I'm with you, I used to have a lot of brand allegiance and very specific things I looked for, but for now I'm just interested in the right car for the job. The Stinger was spectacular car that really fit the bill for what I needed at the time, and I'd love to own one again someday.

I'm in the same boat as you. I enjoyed reading through your "lead up" to the purchase of the GC. The Stinger, while my favorite car I've owned, was not practical for me. I have a baby on the way, had two car payments (Stinger was a weekend car), and couldn't justify it sitting in the garage anymore. When I'm older and don't have 40 years worth of obligations ahead of me, I think I'll indulge then. For now, like you, I have one car and the wife has the SUV for the little one and for trips. I'm perfectly happy with the Q50 being AWD and being able to drive it year around.

I think I had the Stinger in rain twice... It was a special car! Bought it new for a good deal in June '20, had it for a year, made money on it, and had a large equity check - can't beat that. I see them driving around from time to time and I reminisce. It has been a great community here, unlike the Q50 forum... Don't get me started LOL glad you are enjoying the GC. I had a 300 SRT8 and I had no issues, it was a boat but 450 hp in that thing was joyful

Vroom is still offering me $54k for my S5. Carvana and CarMax have both dropped to $48k..

Reading through this thread I was really thinking of selling both of my cars but when I started shopping I realized there are NO new cars available and the price to get into a low mile used car is way out there. All I could think of is how much negative equity I'd end up with when things normalize.

If I could live without a car until next year I'd definitely go for it.

Oh, btw, CarMax has finally made their whole process digital like Vroom and Carvana. They no longer require you to take the car in for inspection before giving a quote.

And just like that it’s back. Not sure how they came up with that other offer but the VIN and everything was right. I did change my contact info. The $30k appraisal took them 4 days to get back to me with. This was instant.

It doesn't hurt to get an offer. Don't forget to check Carvana and CarMax, as well.

I originally purchased it brand new for 36k and some change from Ferguson Kia when they were running the instant rebates. On the way to Carmax I had a rock ding my passenger front side window and put a crack in it. Carmax didn't change their offer as they said at the time the used car market was desperate. Fun car but I am getting a Hyundai ionic 5 and then will trade that in for a Kia EV6 GT when they come out later on. A few of the guys there were checking the car out saying they loved it and I never saw the car go on sale from Carmax

I think I'd be bored as hell the Maverick is super cool and interesting but it wouldn't scratch that itch for me as an only car. That's just me! Good luck!

I think we will begin to see these crazy prices taper off as we move into the 2022 model year. Manufacturer probably kept the tech for their new EVs or 22 model year vehicles, while stopping production on the 21s. While not the best deal, I think getting the e tron when I did, with a bump in equity from the Stinger and the $20k off the e-tron was a decent deal. Payment is less, fueling the new vehicle also cost less. While being a nicer and quieter vehicle, with more space, the reliability of Audi’s are not the best. Already had two repairs in less than 6 months, battery cooling system valve and the AC pressure sensor. I’m hoping nothing else comes up but we know how that goes.

I’m concerned about what will happen when prices normalize for all the folks that had to get a used or new vehicle with a jacked up price. It not like the banks are going to reduce that.

We're fairly far into the release of the 2022 Stingers, pricing still isn't 'right'. There's no end in sight for the stock shortages, so unless you have specific knowledge no one else does I don't see any changes in the coming months. Best estimates I've heard are sometime in 2022 (2023 model year) things may return to some semblance of normal and dealer inventory is more than a couple weeks (they usually like 60-90 days of stock).

That 2022 Stinger should have been a 2021. They were late to the US market with the facelift, instead of November, as it had been since the first one they dropped in way earlier. September is when most car companies out out the next model year vehicle, the Europeans sometimes get them in around July. The Stinger is similar to them releasing new, next generation models early in April (Sorento, Sportage then Telluride), but it is a refreshed model. The EV6 has a bigger adoption rate in Europe so they get it first. They showed it in Korea but the press hasn’t driven it there yet. We are supposed to get it in January but initially the press started end of 2021, which normally means November/ December. I feel they will bring it here then but not in large numbers initially based on how our market is. If it get traction, then we will get more.

If the stinger was your daily driver I would 100% keep it. It's basically a swiss army knife that can do anything from blistering performance to a comforting cruise. But the fact that its your fun car leaves a lot on the table. I am also a huge Audi fan but if you hit twisty roads for fun Audis tend to understeer. I know Audi tried to fix that issue with the new B9 generation but I haven't seen anything as of yet. As for your other options, the G80 is basically the same thing wrapped up in a different package (which isn't a bad thing at all), the q50 RS is as fast but no where near as nice I test drove one before buying my stinger. As for SRT cars they are literally everywhere, but god damn do they look fun. I think the biggest question you have to ask is do you still want RWD or do you want AWD and then narrow down your choices from there.

I got a dealership to give me $1,000 more for my Stinger than Vroom and $300 less that Carmax. I am taking the deal but only thing is that they have to locate the car I want, so I have been waiting.....They have 12 of the cars at the dealership but not the color combo I want. It helps to know the Sales Director.
