I'd be careful with that labor quote.

They initially quoted me 1.5 hours (Fortunately in writing) and then once they had the car they told me that was the labor charge for just the front, the rear being an additional 5 hours...

Fortunately I had the quote in writing by email as I had them doing other stuff and they had also screwed up on their initial inspection that I paid for so the honored the original quote.

The photo and part# reference from Kia's site is for the front AND rear, right? (sorry, I wouldn't know a sway bar if I fell over one)

On kia.ca you can shop accessories, and if you plug in your postal code and select a dealer, then add the sway bars to your cart, you'll get a quote that includes installation. I was planning to get the sway bars out of the US once the border opens up again, and then get the dealer to install (assuming they'll still honour the installation cost from their website). $166.60 (+ tax, of course) for installation at the dealership isn't too bad, I don't think?

I would say that's a great price.... the bars are a little more than you can get from other Canadian vendors, but with install that's a very good price

I just emailed the quote to myself, to have record of it ... and of course there's fine print at the bottom - "All prices, products and availability are subject to change without notice. Dealer installation charges may vary, please consult with Dealer. Please contact your dealer for specific details". So, they may use that disclaimer to bump the installation charge. We'll see ... won't be happening for a while yet, but I'll report back once I get 'em.

It's a full set of front and rear. As RedCal pointed out when they are installed there are two installation settings, firm and not so firm. Make sure you tell the tech's which setting you want.

The kit is not the issue, but rather the quotation from Kia on the labor.

I wonder if the labour is incorrectly set for a single bar install, and not the pair? 2-3 hours is lots for the dealer to do the install, 1.4hours is a bit "light" but not by much

What they told me was it was only for the front bar and the rear would be another 5 hours. Apparently in their system that's what it defaults to.

The good news is if they provide it in writing they should honor it. Also the tech told me you would have to drop the rear sub frame. When I told him you don't and offered to show him half a dozen youtube videos of guys doing it themselves without dropping the rear frame he agreed...

5 hours is an insane amount of time, I had mine done at a independent shop (before KIA offered it, or I didn't know about it) took one guy under 3hours for both front and rear and he was taking his time - but he have me a flat rate price so it didn't impact the price. plus lots of members here have DIY'd it in their driveway in around 3 hours... maybe 5 hours with an alignment after?

Front and rear sways and springs on mine took about 5.5 hours total from what the tech that installed them said. And he’s not a Kia tech.. I paid less than $400 for the whole install with multiple shops quoting me between $1100-$1500 USD because of the book time.

haha... it could also be that KIA uses predetermined labour rates for jobs, and the dealer is/was trying to "add time" for a "difficult" install... A friend of mine used to be a mechanic and he said some jobs had stupid long times assigned, and others there was no way anyone could do it in the time assigned , but at the end of the day/week it all worked out (plus some days he got paid for 20hours of work in an 8 hour day)

I was referring more to the "dude said they had to drop the rear sub frame until I offered to show him YouTube videos" part than the labour hours part ... lol

If I'm just doing the sway bars, no springs, do I need an alignment after that?

Nope. I checked into that as well. Sways don't impact alignment. Coils do

Wait until you get it done and you take an on ramp onto the 401 at high speed. Will feel like you are glued to the road. Makes a real difference.

I haven’t gotten it aligned yet, think it’s necessary? I hear conflicting responses.

I had it done Friday and have driven the car every day (and about 2 hours on the highway sunday). It does not need an alignment. Dead straight and flat.

If you are getting coils done I would though.

I had coils done a couple weeks ago..the tech said I didn’t need it and it drives straight. I’m wondering if maybe something got knocked offline or something I can’t feel? Everything I read says get an alignment but not sure if that’s just to get me to spend more money

They always want you to spend more money.

You don't "need" an alignment after coils its just recommended given how much they have to take apart to get at them. If it drives straight afterwards I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If you need an alignment you will be able to feel it while driving it

You might not feel any pull, but after a while uneven tread wear would say to get an alignment.
