Hi everyone!

Pretty new to the board. Picked up my '22 Stinger a couple of weeks ago and on two separate occasions I had the following happen.

As I was reversing out of a parking spot, the blind spot detection system picked up the car parked to the side of me and as I was pulling out and cracking the steering wheel to one side (while reversing), the system's collision prevention kicked in and abruptly stopped the car. I actually thought I had hit something.

Like I said, it happened twice and the exact same scenario. Curious if this has happened to anyone else or if it was simply a coincidence...

Cheers!

Not that I have read/ you're the first with this exact scenario. :D But I do know that the sensors are schizophrenic, in that they sense each other in other vehicles: and random signals (and in this case also, reactions) are always possible. (I'm glad you didn't hit something! That must have made the grief turn back into mild annoyance.)

Do you mean the blind spot sensor or the parking sensor? The blind spot system is what flashes a light in the side mirror when there is a car in your blind spot (rear quarter panel). It only functions above a certain speed.
The parking sensors are what alert you to obstacles in the front, rear and corners of the vehicle such as parking curbs and such.
I believe they use different sensors.

My collision sensor has worked fairly well the few times it has engaged. My only task annoyance with the blindspot sensor is when I am coming up to a stop in a double left turn lane and I have my left turn signal on in the right hand lane.

I know that is a very specific complaint, but it is on my commute so every day I drive in it happens.

Granted I'm super new to the car, but Im almost certain is the was the blind spot senor because it flashed in the heads up display. I'm going to keep an eye on it. I should ask, would the parking sensor actually apply the braking to avoid hitting something because the car automatically came to an abrupt stop on its own. Not a huge annoyance...shoot, I'd rather it fail in the sense of stopping the car than it not stopping the car :)

Regardless...im in love with this car...I've already got my share of "what car is this???" the new logo also has people confused!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Maybe some features are new to the '22 model. Look in your owners manual. I have a '19 and the OM says nothing about the "Parking Distance Warning - Forward" system being able to automatically apply the brakes, it just talks about chiming when detecting an object. It also does not mention anything about showing in the HUD, I also have not noticed it in my HUD. I do see a display in the instrument cluster LCD though.
The blind spot system is different, and is supposed to only operate at speeds above 20mph and detects when another vehicle is in your rear quarter panel area. This can show an alert in the HUD. It also says nothing about automatically applying the brakes.
The only thing I know that can automatically apply the brakes is the Force Collision Avoidance system which operates above 6mph. The OM does not say anything about the HUD showing this alert, but it does show in the LCD panel.

I've had something similar happen.
On my 2018 (without the emergency rear braking BUT same Blindspot/rear cross traffic sensors),
if I:
-reverse fast (like 12km/h+)
-if something is close my side (but car won't hit)
-Or if I reverse while turning to the side of an object
My rear cross traffic sensors will go off.

my guess is the 2021/22 stinger still does this, but since it has the braking, it will also stop the car.
