I have a CEL and code 0304 reading on the JB4. I attempted WOT with map2 and the whole engine lost power. I limped home and turned the car off. Turned it back on and it ran normally. A week or so later, I got the CEL with the code 0304 while about 75% or less throttle merging onto a highway. Engine seems to misfire at any throttle above 40%. I thought the issue was with the plug on cylinder 4, so I removed it, confirmed .22 gap, plug was not damaged, and reinstalled. Same issue. Where do I go from here? After I installed everything in the BMS performance package, it was running great. I haven't tapped the fuel lines into the JB4 yet, could that be the issue? I don't go WOT often at all, in fact it was only to test my 0-60 . Been running 93 octane top tier.

Interface won't let my PM Terry@BMS, so I figured I'd ask the wider forum.

If it's not the plug it's the coil or the fuel injector, so try moving coil around to see if misfire follows. If that doesn't do it revert vehicle to factory and let dealer fix it for you as its likely the injector. Those need to be coded to the car so harder to swap yourself.

Gotcha. Any way to prevent this in the future or did I likely mess something up during the install?

I had a coil disintegrate the spring. It still ran with no code, only broke up under load around 5600 rpm. I'd say injector

Interesting.

When you say revert to factory, do you mean remove all mods or just JB4? I'll be trying the coil first, maybe if I swap with a coil from another cylinder that isn't troubled it might work. I'll post the outcome here either way!

Remove the jb4 before going to the dealership.

I removed the JB4. They are pinning it on the spark plugs "for starters", said they were incorrect. When asked to clarify what they meant by incorrect and they said not stock. They also noted the catch can and filters. They also said I have "aftermarket wiring", despite having removed the JB4.

Their solution is to pay them to return it to stock. I passed. I took pictures of the plugs when I checked them. Maybe I need Hk rather than Denso? I also still have the stock plugs set aside. I'm hoping I can resolve the misfire without having to return everything to stock. Any suggestions?

If going to a dealer all mods need to be removed, the will blame any problem on any mod they see regardless of the rational reasoning.

Are there other dealers in your area? Not all dealers are as prickly as this one. I’d interview a few and go elsewhere if possible for future work.

Yeah that's why I asked for clarification before. Lol.

There are, but this one is the closest and where I bought the car. The other two are owned by the folks who screwed me previously. I'll probably have to go to Mass, but I want to see if I can't fix it myself first. I was 100% confident my gapping was done right, although the gauge provide dby BMS differs from one that I got at AutoZone. I went with the BMS reading at .22. I f I swap the plug to another cylinder or reinstall just one stock plug gapped to .22, could that solve it or create more problems?

It weird that I didn't have these issues for a few weeks after completely installing everything. Not sure how an issue like this can just suddenly come up. Send help.

The gap of that spark plug in the picture looks HUGE.

Here is a Denso after 11k miles at .24: .024 Forgot a 0 - big difference

the gap on your plug is MASSIVE wow. Tighten them up and retest. should be .022" not .22"

Hmm maybe the BMS gauge is off. I'll compare for a third time to confirm.

Yes, the one that looks like a multi tool.

Our feeler gauges are fine and easy to confirm. Sure you gapped it to 0.022"?
