Frameless Auto Dimming and Universal Remote Rear View Mirror

The cover is 2 pieces. You simply pull out to expand it. It should go under the headliner and then it should not fall off. Also, if the mirror and the cover are original, the cover actually clicks into the mirror windshield bracket. Post pictures of the bracket and the plastic piece and I can see if I can help you out.

Thanks - I've had it "click" into place, and it seems fine. Then, after sitting a day at 95+ in the sun, it's back on the floor..

I'm interested to see if the new mirror in the refreshed Stinger will swap directly in. Looks to be either frameless or very thin bezeled from the photos.

Good point !
just like the tail light, everything could maybe just be swap and pnp

that should definitely be plug and play. I wonder if it's homelink v5 though. makes a huge difference for me. v4, like my wife's honda, you press and it doesn't work if it's not close enough. the V5 keeps trying for a few seconds until it opens. that plus the confirmation icon seals it for me.

I want to change the entertainment screen system.... that would be about it for me. Looking forward for someone to do it

Not happening.
if, in theory, it is possible, at the very least it would require replacement of the screen, head unit, and the trim. The wiring harnesses would have to match. if the display cable is a separate unit, that might be replaceable if needed; if it's integrated into the one harness, i'd say that's a hard stop.

Not happening.
Why wouldn't it ?
you can change the bigger screen to the 2018 models, you can put a gt2 cluster into a gt1. Why wouldn't you "plug" the bigger screen to a 2019-2020 model ?

if the harness is different, I get it, however if it is not, why wouldn't it be an option if the head unit is similar or swappable ? ( forget about the trim replacement)

The GT2 and GT1 shared the same screen. You’re talking about GT1/2 into GT.
The difference between those is a trim difference among the same car.
Besides the hardware cost of the 10.3” which will certainly be in excess of $1000, there’s a new media control unit, which will also cost about $1000, new wiring, and very likely a vehicle programming element as well and the miscellaneous trim pieces.

Given what will be a high price point for the materials and little interest by the aftermarket in development of this platform at an accessible price, it’s not going to happen.

Not necessarily. It doesn’t have to be.

I would recommend reaching out to Bob @ Bob’s Automotive. I’ve worked with him for years and mirrors are all he does. He has just about all of them available.

He has an eBay store, but I strongly suggest that you contact him by email (rearviewmirrors@csinet.net) and mention my screen name and you’ll get a better price than anything you would find searching on your own (he and his company are not affiliated with me, I do not profit from his sales, and I don’t get anything free or steeply discounted). The only reason you’d want to mention me is so he knows what type of wiring harness you have.

If you like the Rostra, Subaru, or any other mirror, just mention it and he’ll have it pinned to our connector for easy PNP.

The Rostra mirror is $119 shipped — the last time I checked.
The Subaru mirror with the red compass is $149 shipped — last time I checked.
The mirror that I have GENK85A, which is $299, but can be found for around $240. It’s quite a bit more than the other two.

Bob will tell you a lot of useful information in his email exchanges and would probably start by him asking your familiarity with what you’re buying. If he knows you plan on putting the mirror in a different car (i.e., Subaru going into the Stinger) he will advise you of the differences in harness connectors and functionality that may be lost, that Subaru often changes model numbers on their mirrors, that mirrors have differ slightly, etc.

The difference among the mirrors are:
- Rostra, edge room edge glass, auto-dim, green compass, Homelink v5 (no LEDs to indicate door successfully opening/closing), slightly smaller than stock.
- Subaru, black slim bezel, auto-dim, red compass, backlit Homelink buttons, Homelink v5 (Directional LEDs to indicate door opening/closing), about the same as stock
- GENK85A, edge to edge glass, auto-dim, green compass, backlit Homelink buttons, Homelink v5 (Directional LEDs to indicate door opening/closing), slightly larger than stock coupled with edge to edge allows for greater visibility out of the rear.
Just to add to this I purchased the mirror from Bob a frameless one as well and it was plug and play. I emailed him and he pretty much gave me the options told him I wanted the frameless with the Homelink v5, compass, and auto-dimming mirror. He said they will get it from their supplier and rewire so just have to plug it in with no issues. Received in the mail today and installed and everything worked perfectly. If you want to swap out mirrors definitely email him. If interested in the mirror below the model number is ADVGENFL85EXP. No spacer is required for the mirror either.

how much was it and how long did it take for you to get it from the time you msg Bob ? (did you go through the listing or email directly?)

From the time I messaged him and the time I received the mirror it was about a week. He is located in Missouri and I am in California. It was a quick turnaround granted he had to get the mirror from his supplier and do the rewiring. The mirror was $289 and it comes with a three year warranty as well. But I emailed him and then he sent me an invoice via PayPal after I decided on the mirror.

That looks great! I also went through Bob a few weeks back and got a similar mirror (auto-dimming, Homelink v5) without the compass. Plug-and-play, but the plug wire is a bit long (most of it is wrapped around the base of the mirror arm) and now there's a gap between the arm and the base where the white connector is visible. I love the frameless look, but it looks like your mirror is just right.

It might not be a big deal but ever thought of unplugging and possibly just spray paint black. Should be possible

I have a '22. The homelink is great! It works so much better than my old car's homelink (BMW). It has the up and down lights, and works from at least 50 yards.

Anyone happen to have the instructions for changing the compass region on the Rostra? I didn't buy this thing from Bob so I'm not going to bother him.

edit: never mind figured it out myself. use a small pin to push the button on the back of the right hand side of the mirror for a few seconds till a number shows up, click the button till you're proper zone is listed. The zones are the same as Gentex instruction Snowhite posted earlier.
