JB4 issues

KIA told me to avoid the JB4 like the plague--and others like it. I asked about it after I put my exhaust mod and they showed me the warranty work they had to do on destroyed plugs on someone that used a JB4--they covered it--but sent a memo on it to the dealer. the bill was like 700 dollars in repair of what the JB$ did--you can also prob kiss the warranty goodbye.
They didn’t have the right plugs. I’ve got 36k miles on mine and no issues with JB4. Like anything if not following instructions/safety things gan get f’d up.

Not sure why this thread has not been moved to the "tuning" thread???

Can someone please help me. I have the BMS performance package. JB4 tuner, bms intakes, denso spark plugs sized to .022. I run 5 gallons of E85 and the rest 93 from only Mobil or Shell. Doesn’t matter the map I run 1-3 about 120mph my car is stuttering so badly it won’t climb after 120-122 then the tuner is automatically putting itself back to map 0. Is this a spark plug issue? Intake and fuel issue? I did splice into my fuel line with the tuner. I can’t figure out the issue and it’s getting very frustrating. $1100 and I’m running stock to perform normall. No issues on map 0. Something obviously to do with tuner. Anyone else have these problems? And ideas? Thanks
What do you mean by stuttering? Like your on the throttle and it kinda cuts out and it won’t rev out more and you can’t go faster? Do you have a data log of when this happened . If you are running too much e85 you could be having fuel pressure drop which is not good . I have run e30 on map3,4,5 with no issues. I did experience what I described up top at the 4th gear to 5th shift using e30 on map5 it just wouldn’t go any faster and wouldn’t keep revving out . I dont think it was fuel pressure drop I’m pretty sure it was because a late shift which caused a throttle closure ... Were you flooring it when this happened? And we’re you manually shifting ? If you shift 4th gear slightly early maybe around 5500-5800rpm you should be good . Your best bet on finding out what happened is your data logs though

Is there any chance your sensor wires are backwards on the JB4? How many miles are on those spark plugs?

You can just fill back up with 93 only, that will dilute the E85 to 2.5gal/tank, which shouldn't be an issue.

I missed the part about you only having one fuel wire installed, that's probably your problem, LOL (although I still think 5gal E85 is a bit much).
I'd be interested to see this video too. Maybe they were talking about the 2.0 (4 cyl), since it only needs one fuel wire.
I run 5 or 5.5 gallons of e85 from the pump but it tests out at a little over e70 though

What spark plugs do you have 36k on? I hope not the densos they get way out of spec by 12,000 miles and the iridium tips are really eroded . You don’t want one of those tips coming off in your engine. I got 54,000 out of the stock plugs without JB4 lol I’m changing my densos every 10,000 miles to be safe

I’ve changed 2 times now. The second time I got the 5347 two step plugs gapped to 0.02. They work pretty nice. But the first set only lasted about 14k miles or so. I’m hoping the two step last longer.

If you read a little bit after my original post we came to the conclusion I watched a video on a website installing the JB4 to a 2.0 not a 3.3 and they advised only installing one of the wires coming off the tuner. I just woke up and am about to head out and get both wires connected and once I do I will update on the issue

Ok so I connected the 2nd wire. Long wire to drivers side and short to passengers side and I’m getting a bunch of lights on my dash image.webp

Do you connect to both red wires on both sides of the harness or should I be connecting to a different color wire? They have red white black and grey.

Yea I’m pretty sure to delete it you car should be off with the ignition on all the way. I had issues trying to delete codes and that way seemed to work best
Another way is if you have a OBD reader, you can delete codes that way as well

Everything is all good!! Cars running great, no issues, no lights, ran it up to 130mph no bog outs climbed really fast. Thank you to everyone for all your help. You guys really were awesome.
