I recently gave E85 a try and added only 2.6 gallons of it and noticed a little bit of a difference. To get true E30 mix I would need to add close to 5 gallons of E85. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this?

I have tried it a couple of times. I had better luck with boostane. Not sure I saw much improvement with the e85. But I definitely saw results with the boostane.

I agree, I bought a bottle of boostane as well but havent tried it but I did try 100 octane race gas I found being sold AT the Pump for 9.98 a gallon! So I only filled it half way with 100 and the rest with 92 and saw a pretty big difference with the current mods I have on the car.
E85 felt like it was going towards that direction of power gains but not as much as race gas, maybe cuz it wasnt enough E85?

I mainly was trying a few different fuel ideas because here in Washington we only get 92 and I wanted to see what is the best fuel mix for me to run the 93 tune on the Lap3 pro tuner.

Coming from a turbo Subaru, I'm can give a brief summary of E85. E85 is like race gas but cheap. It's something like 110 octane. You can make MASSIVE power if you're properly tuned for it. The Subaru guys would routinely get >500 wHP (all-wheel drive), out of a 2.5L 4-cyl.

The challenge with E85 is that it's significantly lower energy density (about ~20%), so you need larger fuel injectors and your gas mileage gets a 20% hit BEFORE taking into account power gains (Think <20 mpg FREEWAY).

Your right, a tune is needed for the car to run 100% on E85 but my question here is if anyone has tried running a E30 mix in their stinger without a tune for 100% E85........Just how I did, I've got the Lap3 pro tuner and put in 2.6 gallons of E85 which got me around +/- E20 which then enabled me to switch to the 93 octane map on the pro tuner and the car ran pretty good and did notice a little more power but not as much as when I filled half the tank with 100 octane race gas and the rest 92 octane which brought me up to at least 94 octane or more. As far as fuel consumption it seemed to burn about the same as before at least for me when I mixed the E85. To run a E30 mix in the stinger you would have to put at least 4.8 gallons of E85 and the rest 92 pump gas. It all depends on how potent the E85 is because it does vary.

My buddy in his tuned and modded 2016 WRX runs a E30 mix and hes not tuned for E85 and it runs great and has noticeable extra power.

I run jb4 map 5 for my dd. 5 gallons e85 and the rest 91octane. When I first did it I noticed the power difference after driving so many miles. If since then I never went back to just 91.

Ok sounds good, I feel more confident in putting the 5 gallons of E85 in the car now. Yeah it takes a few miles to get mixed in and to the engine. It was the same for me when I put the race gas. How was you MPG?

my mileage is the same. I drove it like I stole it so I never get anything past 18 mpg on long trips I get 25-27mpg

So I installed the Lap3 primaries and the SSR secondaries and added 3 gallon of E85 mixed with 92 and changed to map 2 (stage 3) in the pro tuner and holy crap.......this totally woken up a animal. such a huge difference its scary!

On a side note I am trying something thats un-traditional. The stinger in every video Ive seen on youtube with every exhaust system has this annoying and unattractive BUZZ in the sound of the exhaust at certain rpms, until I get the rest of the exhaust in and installed I wont know 100% BUT so far what Ive done is Ive Wrapped the primaries and the secondaries with exhaust wrap and Ive got footage of this I will be uploading on my youtube channel soon. SO what thats done is muffled the Rasp Buzz in the exhaust and now it moved the sound to the X-pipe location. the whole front of the car is quiet until it connects to the stock unwrapped X-pipe (mid section/cat back) so Ive got the SSR muffler delete coming and once I get that in Im gonna see about wrapping that and the mid section aka cat-back part of the exhaust and that way the whole exhaust system will be wrapped and if it deletes the rasp then THERE YOU GO. pretty excited in this modification and happy to share this information. Ive wrapped a lot of exhaust systems so this isnt my first rodeo.

How many miles do you think it takes before you notice 5-6 gallons of E85 in your tank when mixing it with 91/93 pump? I put 6 gallons in my tank yesterday and put 91 pump in the rest of the tank and then set JB4 to map3 and drove about 15 miles and I don't think I noticed anything yet. It was over 90 degrees in LA too which doesn't help the turbos either. I know actual ethanol levels in E85 can vary; just seeing how many miles you usually drive to feel some kind of difference.

I could swear I read somewhere on here or n54 that when you change octane and go to a higher map you need to go hard on the throttle so the jb4 can adjust. Apologies in advance if I'm mis-remembering but it may be worth a shot, if you haven't already.

I do know that the few times I've gone from map 2 back to map 5, it seemed to adjust fairly quickly, but I also drive it pretty hard right away.

Good to know! And good thing I've been running logs and pushing the pedal to the metal ever since adding some E85 :)

I effed up and wasn’t paying attention when filling up. I added 9.8 gal of e85 and the rest 87 unleaded. What should I do? Ride it out and never do it again or start siphoning it out?

Run it easy, don't go full send until the tank is empty and you've filled the tank up with 93.

A couple of notes and lessons learned on E85. (All I lived and dealt with)
For starters, I have 93......
1. Don't ever trust a pump that says E85, for the most part they are labeled Flex Fuel. Test it with a cheap unit like this >> Ethanol tester << for $15 you can't beat it.
2. Don't swag your estimates! Use a calculator like this >>> Ethanol Calculator <<
3. There's a reason why Stingers don't run E35 E40 E50 ect. Maxed out, at best you might get the car to run on E35 so buyer beware! By run I mean going Full throttle through a few gears. What WILL happen is your HPFP WILL crash.
4. Higher maps or boost profiles require more Oct. More octane means more E, more E means you get closer to that threshold. It's a balance that you have to figure out for your car. For me, its E-20 ish, any more and it's limp mode until I pull over and restart the engine.
5. A better alternative is Methanol injection. You can run say... 10lbs over stock as a daily driver. Unless you driving aggressive, that doesn't mean your constantly pushing that much boost. But, when the time comes, the Meth controller with kick in and give you that octane plus a cooler IAT.
6. If you want to continue to run E to keep up with octane requirements, I highly recommend a new HPFP like from Spool.
