Windshield Replacement

I just got a nice 9 inch crack on my windshield from a rock on the freeway. I just tried to book an appointment with Safelite but they cannot calibrate the sensor on the windshield, so I figured I should just have the dealer do it. So here is my question...

Question: Is there any business you know of that can calibrate this sensor? I'm sure the dealer is going to cost quite a bit more than a Safelite.

Did you ever get a response to this as I'm in the same boat and need to replace my windshield. If you have comprehensive insurance they should cover any dollar amount above your deductible. I was thinking about going with the same company I used before but given all of the technology with the safety features, I'm thinking it best I go through the dealership.

my local dealer said they wouldn't replace it and that you don't need to recalibrate if the installers know what they are doing. (shrugs)

Somebody here posted that they used a regular windshield shop that had the ability to take care of it. As more and more vehicles have these cameras on the windshield, I'm sure it's becoming more common. Just call around, or check out web sites.

I’d recommend calling around to see which shops have performed a replacement on a Stinger. Safelite took good care of me once I contacted the corporate office.

I am getting mine full OEM replacement right now at this very moment at Safelite. They have the techs and gear to recalibrate my 2019 Stinger GT2 with all the safety features. Roughly 2 hours and paid my deductible because out of pocket is over $1500.

Lane assist, SCC, collision warning, and I think the HUD has something to do with it too.

I think that the HUD works properly on the right kind of glass (construction). There isn't anything in the windshield itself that requires "calibrating" or whatever. It wasn't long ago, on here, that somebody observed that their HUD looked like crap because the specialized windshield had not been replaced properly.

Well it was way off and unusable so I went to a Honda dealership and it was back to factory functionality. My insurance paid for both trips.

I had the same thing done about 4 years ago on my 2015 Honda CRV. Had the windshield replaced at Safelite then went to Honda for them to recalibrate the camera in the windshield.

Ideally for my Stinger, I'd like to do one appointment and be done. I don't want to have to take it to Safelite and then Kia. This is why I asked if you can't just have the whole job done by a Kia dealership or is replacing windshields not a thing most dealers do?

I had the windscreen on my Holden Calais replaced with a genuine screen, twice the price, and it came with all the HUD and camera attachment points already on the screen. Everything worked fine but apparently aftermarket screens can give trouble

Got my windshield replaced in February.
Was done at Safelite, make sure you get an OEM if you have a HUD.
Couldn't do a calibration, so I took it to the dealer, they charge $200.
All was covered on my car insurance, no deductible.

I had to get oem last year due to Hud being fuzzy and not being able to calibrate the lane assist now they won't cover OEM and want to charge me 600

Wait, you replaced your windshield because of HUD being fuzzy and you didn’t go through your insurance to do this?

I still haven't bothered to get my front windshield replaced. The crack in my windshield keeps getting longer but hasn't obstructed the driver side view yet. The crack starts from the passenger side edge of windshield and extends to about the middle of the windshield.

If safelite and other 3rd party windshield companies still don't have glass windshields compatible with the HUD I don't want to waste my time and money until they do.

Suck it up--I think you're stuck. I've had my GTI windshield replaced twice now, and each time Safelite--a superb operation around here--acknowledged that their computer is wrong, they don't actually have a unit that works on my car, and that they'll have to buy it from the dealer. (The first time, the guy got the mirror off and did a thorough study of the factory glass vs what Safelite said was their replacement, and determined--correctly--that Safelite's computers were full of crap. He stopped, we ordered the factory glass, and all was well.)

If you insist on using third party glass, I'm afraid you'll be waiting for the rest of your life. It's only going to get more and more involved as time goes on.
