New Stinger Recall

I have my recall repair appointment at the dealer this Friday. I am relieved to hear the “fix” is somewhat simple an non evasive. I had fears of sliced up wiring everywhere.

Suffice it to say, I will stress to them that I want to ensure the job is done with the utmost care.

Thanks for the excellent explanation and information
Did you get a letter from Kia Canada saying the recall is a go? The only letter i got was the first one saying that a recall is in development.

Same here...Just the initial information letter.

Same. Just called my dealership and was told no remedy available yet.

Yeah, true. He was quite familiar with the recall but said they haven’t received anything yet from Kia to perform the fix. Hopefully soon.

I received a letter in early November mentioning there was an issue and no fix was available yet. At that point I called my dealer (Lockwood Kia) and they told me they would be in touch once they received more information.
I eventually received a call from my dealer in late November telling me to come in for the fix on Dec 11th .
If you haven’t heard anything yet, I would call your dealer.

This is about enough reason for me to buy that new portable oscilloscope I always wanted. Would love to chart data over weeks time and see what those two wires are pulling for current while 40 amp fuses are still intact - I’d do some aggressive driving and try to get all circuits in HECU to simultaneously trigger.
I think this would shine some light on things...
That would REALLY give us important data, please share the results.

Received 2nd letter today. Need an oil change soon but don't really want to be the first Stinger they do this too. As an electrician by trade, the dealer techs worry me .

Recall says 2 to 3 hours to perform. Does anyone know if kia dealerships in canada give rentals or loaners? Ford always does.

Just made my appointment today. The parts department had to order the parts by my VIN number. Going in next Thursday to get it done. I think I might be the first one in the dealership to get this done so I'm kind of nervous.

My Kia dealer gave me a rental last time I was there. It wasn’t really a rental, I suspect it was a used car they had on the lot.

Don’t be :). They have their technical instructions, the complete breakdown of every nut and bolt to do this. Just inspect the car throughly before and after, all will be fine.

Hold them accountable, don’t leave the lot if there’s any dissatisfaction at all. I bought this car, which pays Kia, who pays those techs so we’ve already paid them to do a good job. We got to make sure they perform!

Thanks for the reassurance. I will definitely check everything before I leave.

And tell them up front: This had better be done right. I checked and took pictures before and will definitely check afterward!

Got the call from my dealers service manager yesterday my part is there and they want to do the work asap. Told him I would be by Friday. My thought is I’ll go talk to him and say I want the kit to do the work myself. I really don’t trust their techs. Or do I let them do it? If so I think I would want to watch. He said they need two and a half hours to do it. Ahhhh what to do, what to do.

You can do it yourself but I think the work needs to be verified by Kia. That’s a service appointment in itself. Say your car burns down from the recall issue and they try and say ‘well they did it themselves’ ya know?

Lotta folks really don’t trust Kia techs. I’m trying to have faith but I’ve yet to have a car serviced by them outside of wheel balancing and free oil changes so I have naïve optimism that isn’t smeared by a bad record. I’m going for it and I imagine most folks will. It’s their job to fix it so I’ll hold them to it, bad track record and all.

I'm going in next Thursday for this. Service writer said it's a similar fix to the recalled Sorentos in February and shouldn't be an issue. No loaner or rental cars though, sucks.

I was told by two parts departments that they will not provide me with the kit and that it’s the law that a Kia dealer performs the recall.

Interesting. I’ll post my conversation with my service manger tomorrow.

Have you had yours done yet ?

No. Mine's in storage until the spring so it won't happen until then. Probably not the worst thing as i'd rather not be the guinea pig for some tech learning how to cut and splice wires in a fuse box.

false on their part. tell them to give that to you in writing. i already cleared it with kia any other shop can do the recall with the proper kit as long as you confirm it with a dealer that it was done.
