We’re better off with our Stingers...

We will see, I'm working on a video talking about just that

Horsepower/Performance aside (obviously the stinger wins there, over the base 180hp, but that new dual injected 2.5L in the K5 GT is nice)

The K5 really does darn near invalidate the Stinger. The tech is another level, you instantly see how dated the Stinger is. Radar cruise starting on the EX, The vastly improved forward collision avoidance in the camera too, wireless android auto/apple car play. They did something to the steering even on NOT the GT models (the GT has a different steering rack). It's not as good as hydraulic, but closing the gap. The K5 just includes MUCH more at a much lower price point. I'd imagine that's why they didn't put AWD in the GT. I heard rumors (let me emphasize RUMORS) engineers said the AWD can't handle the 290hp. But More likely because they don't want to step on the toes of the Stinger. Considering there's only a $5k difference. However you are missing a good amount in the Stinger.

Also don't forget weight. The K5 is nearly 1000lbs lighter. I don't think 75hp can make up for 1-ton.

The Stinger has nicer materials, and a bit more refined. But it's really showing it's age. Which is crazy to say, because it's only 2 years old.
Here in Canada you don't even get lane keep assist or radar cruise on the normal GT. You have to go to the limited

I don't get any special info more than the average consumer, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Stinger is getting a full refresh next year. I'm going to guess that's why Korea got a small refresh, and we got a carry over in NA. But I will also guess (more hope than anything) Kia is going to want to want to put in that new 3.5L from the G80. As well as a 10.25" inch that's updated with wireless android auto and apple car play. But then again the G70 still has the same 3.3L. There's a ton of changes we COULD see but, maybe we should make a whole different thread

Oh, and it seems the K5 remembers your last drive mode. As far as I can tell anyways heh

I just read some comparision about the K5 GT vs BMW 330i and it seems the K5 is a good performer in therm of driving dynamics! I would have compared more to the new front wheel drive two series but impressed it beat the rwd base 330i.

The 2021 Kia K5 GT Out-Performs the BMW 330i. Here's How the Data Proves It

But also the article proved that this statement wrong: "Also don't forget weight. The K5 is nearly 1000lbs lighter. I don't think 75hp can make up for 1-ton.". K5 GT is doing the 1/4 mile around 14 flat based on their testing where the Stinger in RWD is able to do 13 flat or less many doing closer to 12.7.

I believe with the Stinger Refresh bringning the technology up to date, even more performance gap over the K5, the GT nature and practicality of the Stinger keep it different enough vs the K5 sportish sedan to still be very relevant. I also sure that most people will never cross shop a K5 GT vs a 330i but they might consider a more powerfull GT Stinger for the same price as a well equiped 330i.

Resale value of “options” Are drastically less than “packages” or “models”. KBB might assign an additional $100 of resale value for an option that added $2,000 to the sticker price. While they might add $1,000 for a “package” that added $2,000 to the sticker price. It all just depends on how KBB classifies it.

The way Kia did the GT, GT1, and GT2 designations really helped resale value for the Stinger. BMW and INFINITI destroy their resale values with “al la carte” options.
BMW kills their resale value because, as a former BMW owner (had 3), when they age the parts are ridiculously expensive to replace and notoriously difficult to replace as well. Plus there are far too many sensors. I fear that our Stingers may fall into that same trap as they age --- too much plastic in the engine; wayyyy too many motors that will need replacing (side view mirror motors [2]: folding and Reverse), sunroof scree motor (not needed at all!!); parking brake; power liftgate (which also consumes a lot of battery power).

Yeah, there is a reason BMW doesn't offer 10 year warranties, and why savvy customers lease and turn in, and why 10+ year old BMWs are the equivalent of a hooptie Cadillac or Towncar back in the 90s.

The Stinger may prove to be an expensive folly for KIA, but a great option for us! I'm planning on buying and holding for exactly that reason.

The more I look at the current Stingers, the more I love the current tail lights. I read in a post somewhere that a guy managed to hack the original tail lights on a Meister version. That's probably my Holy Grail Stinger. Does anybody have a link to the website, YouTube, forum where that is discussed? I've searched but have had no luck.

Mathematically just doing basic 25% less weight and 25% less power, the K5 should win on paper. But of course we all know how little paper numbers can mean
(Yes I know aero, drivetrain ect ect ect...quick maths heh)

(K5 is 25% lighter, but 365hp minus 25% is 273.75. TLDR: K5 has better power to weight again... Quick maths)

Makes me wonder how much was lost in the 1/4 mile due to the FWD launch. I'd like to see a roll race.

But gives me hope for the new Stinger.
