We’re better off with our Stingers...

The only thing that caught my eye was some of the safety tech. Totally happy with my stinger

Hey its a bang for your buck I rather have the KIA because the Porsche maintenance is no joke.

Sting Meister, For my 50th birthday, I bought a 1999 Porsche Carerra with less than 45K miles on it. Talk about a money drain. Flat 6 makes everything a fortune to fix because the Porsche certified mechanics have to take out the engine. A battery replacement cost me over $400, the wiring of the electrical system must have been gnawed on by mice, because the electric windows and locks broke. And, I paid someone to check the car over before I purchased it Midlife crisis turned into a financial crisis.

It was a blast to drive, roughest and most raw ride ever. It had a hard top that also broke. LOL!!!! I spent $10K on repairs that last year.

Always lease a Porsche or be a super millionaire.

This is why I wouldn't purchase a German car ever I mean ever. Give me a Kia all day n night long.

Sting Meister, Agreed after experiencing it first hand with a Porsche 911, BMW535i, and Audi Q5. I owned the Porsche and BMW at the same time and my bank account took a big hit. The INFINITI also had high maintenance issues with the belts, although it was under warranty. I have never owned a vehicle made by the Hyundai/Kia until now. It is exciting and new to me right now. Reliability ratings are very good on both. I love the Stinger, because so few have it. It is not a sleeper car. It is THE sleeper car. :)

Resale value of “options” Are drastically less than “packages” or “models”. KBB might assign an additional $100 of resale value for an option that added $2,000 to the sticker price. While they might add $1,000 for a “package” that added $2,000 to the sticker price. It all just depends on how KBB classifies it.

The way Kia did the GT, GT1, and GT2 designations really helped resale value for the Stinger. BMW and INFINITI destroy their resale values with “al la carte” options.

From the short time I've been at my Kia dealership, especially here in Canada, Kia really loves that. Not having options, just different trims. I think it helps with resale value, upsell, and more importantly it makes it really easy for customers.

I was on the fence as to whether or not I was going to commit to keeping my 2018, and this refresh has me in "keep 'er" mode. Maybe the next one will be more compelling!

I constantly battle the siren song of Porsche. I suppose if you can shoulder the lease payment, they are awesome. But ownership for the long haul is not recommended if you don't believe in money pits.

The upgraded head unit is major for me. That's the one thing I don't like about the current models. If there was a way to put the newer, larger unit in a 2018-2021, I'd pick up a used Stinger in a heartbeat. But it doesn't seem like there are options to do that. So I'll just wait until the 2022 hits the States.

Not a fan of either the wheels or the tail lights.

Sorry but pretty much all of the changes except the info center fall short.
I’ve said it before, it’s like they knew they had to do something for the new model year but really should have gone back to the original “artist” that conceived the design.
They had someone else stick their fingers in the batter. Honestly doesn’t work for me.
I am in love with my 2019 GT now more than ever! :geek:

I’m sooooo happy I purchased the 2020 version 3 weeks ago with the end of summer sale. I didn’t know about the upgrade and would have been heated if I didn’t pull the trigger when I did.

I thought the GT line is not getting the 2.5t and was going to remain a 2.0t?
Yes that is what I have read also. The USA will not see these upgrades until the 2022 model which includes power upgrade on the 3.3tt. But the 2.5 will also be in the K5 GT which may put the Stinger out of business.

Seems like the K5 is getting all the hype at the moment. Why does the K5 get fog lights but none for the Stinger when clearly there is space for em?

Hype for K5 will go down but hype on Stinger will remain. K5 GT is front wheel drive and Stinger is RWD or AWD.
Sure K5 will sell more vs Stinger as a midsize affordable car but not as a « dream » sport /GT car that compete with Germans

We will see, I'm working on a video talking about just that

Horsepower/Performance aside (obviously the stinger wins there, over the base 180hp, but that new dual injected 2.5L in the K5 GT is nice)

The K5 really does darn near invalidate the Stinger. The tech is another level, you instantly see how dated the Stinger is. Radar cruise starting on the EX, The vastly improved forward collision avoidance in the camera too, wireless android auto/apple car play. They did something to the steering even on NOT the GT models (the GT has a different steering rack). It's not as good as hydraulic, but closing the gap. The K5 just includes MUCH more at a much lower price point. I'd imagine that's why they didn't put AWD in the GT. I heard rumors (let me emphasize RUMORS) engineers said the AWD can't handle the 290hp. But More likely because they don't want to step on the toes of the Stinger. Considering there's only a $5k difference. However you are missing a good amount in the Stinger.

Also don't forget weight. The K5 is nearly 1000lbs lighter. I don't think 75hp can make up for 1-ton.

The Stinger has nicer materials, and a bit more refined. But it's really showing it's age. Which is crazy to say, because it's only 2 years old.
Here in Canada you don't even get lane keep assist or radar cruise on the normal GT. You have to go to the limited

I don't get any special info more than the average consumer, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Stinger is getting a full refresh next year. I'm going to guess that's why Korea got a small refresh, and we got a carry over in NA. But I will also guess (more hope than anything) Kia is going to want to want to put in that new 3.5L from the G80. As well as a 10.25" inch that's updated with wireless android auto and apple car play. But then again the G70 still has the same 3.3L. There's a ton of changes we COULD see but, maybe we should make a whole different thread

Oh, and it seems the K5 remembers your last drive mode. As far as I can tell anyways heh

Good observations. Just two quick points. 1 ton = 2k lbs. I'm sure that was a typo. ;)

As for the Stinger looking dated, it's isn't two years old. It went on sale in SK in 2016 as a 2017 MY. That leads me to believe it was being built as early as late 2015 and designed (likely) in 2014. The design is AT LEAST 5 years old, but probably closer to 6 or 7.

On the last gen K5 (Optima) Kia said fog lights weren't needed because the headlights were advanced enough to do double duty. Those lights were carried over to the Stinger (same lights, different housing/shape). So I'd guess Kia's rationale was the same for the Stinger. That means the headlights on the K5 either aren't as good or more than likely Kia changed their minds and decided to put fog lights in just for looks.

Heh yes, 1000lbs NOT 1-ton.

And you are right, kinda like how the Supra looks straight from 2013. My guess it was designed along side the 86/BRZ/FRS

Stinger looks very 2014-2015.

I don't think the exterior looks too dated. The interior does look like a car designed in 2014-2015. And when the new ones arrive it'll make the interior look even more dated.

I point out again, the Stinger concept was deliberately retro. It can't look "dated" when it is supposed to remind the passengers of an earlier GT stylistically. Tech, that is entirely different: yes, any refresh will add on newer tech.
