Sooooo, just getting ready to take my 2019 GT1 in for its 2nd oil change. It’s at 9,885 miles. All was well, until it wasn’t. Last Wednesday my car went from superb to barely running.
At first I thought I’d possibly gotten some bad fuel because of the sputtering and horrendous vibrations, but it very quickly became evident that it was much more than that. Car went into limp mode with maximum speed of 35 mph. Luckily, I was only a mile from home. Engine light comes on and screen says engine issues. Ran the diagnostics thru the app and it came back 7 health issues, but didn’t list them. Call dealership and they instruct me to call Kia Roadside Assistance. They were pretty good to deal with. Flat bed hauler showed up within an hour and a half (I’m in a very rural area) and hauled it the 98 miles to the dealership. $650 tow bill is supposed to be handled by Kia, thankfully.
They’ve kept in contact and per KIA, they want my engine and are replacing it with a brand new one. I’ve only seen one other comment where someone had this happen, but I can’t seem to find it. Has anyone else had this?! I literally drove this thing off the showroom floor. I was 2 days shy of having owned it for a year when it was hauled in. How sad. Lol

Any engine mods at all or totally stock?
Totally stock. I actually feel kinda bad owning it because I know it doesn’t get driven like it’s MADE to be driven. Lol. But it’s so damn beautiful!!

Every car has a certain percentage of engines that are defective. Even the Stinger. You just happen to be in that percentage.

You unfortunately see this with every manufacturer. My wife's grandfather bought a CRV, literally 2 blocks down from the dealership after they picked it up, engine went. The dealership just grabbed some guys and pushed it back, they replaced the engine. A week later it's ready he picks it up. 2 weeks after that, the transmission blows.

It has been 100% fine ever since.

That outright sucks! Just take out your frustration on the rental car they hopefully give you

And only the second one I've read of on here. Good that they are getting OP a spanking new engine (they want to rip into the limp one I'm sure).

Yeah, they said they want to strip it down and see where exactly something went wrong as they believe it happened within the factory. Crazy! Haven’t gotten it back yet, but hopefully it’s smooth as butter when I DO get it back.
I have to say, KIA has been excellent to deal with and I’d much rather a brand new engine as trying to fix whatever is wrong with the original. So far they’ve treated me well.

How does getting an engine replaced under warranty impact your powertrain warranty? Are they extending you to 109,885 or will it still cut off at 100k?

That is a really good question and I have no answer. I worried about resale value as well. I was afraid it might make it true miles unknown or something, but the dealership assured me that wouldn’t be the case as everything would be heavily documented. When I ran the diagnostics on it before I had it hauled, it came back as 7 health issues and all were powertrain related. One would ASSUME they’d extend it out, but I’ll have to ask. I’m just hoping this doesn’t turn into a lemon flavored nightmare. Lol

Wow! Glad to hear KIA is doing what they can for you.
