brakes improvement?

Hmm. That was more than a year ago. What can I say? They WERE listed once upon a time. Some people on facebook, early on, were able to order those part numbers from various parts suppliers.

No idea if such shipments have now dried up? At this point, if you need pads, probably best to try various vendors on here, kns brakes, etc..

I gave the stock brake setup 24k miles to see if I could figure out how to keep consistency of feel after bedding. Vibration from pad deposits always came back, to the point where I almost got used to tripling stopping distances above 50mph to get semi-smooth braking.

The stock brake situation is plainly discordant from the level of performance you get from the rest of the Stinger experience - if you are enthusiastically driving it to its designed and advertised limits. You should not have to stop it like a school bus when exiting the highway. I did not want to drive it forever as just a gentle cruiser, so ended up biting the bullet for Girodisc slotted front and rear rotors, with Girodisc front pads and EBC rear pads. Pricey but for me - worth it to restore faith in the Stinger's braking.

If Kia won't fix the problem on stock cars as they are sold, they should at least offer a proper brake upgrade package for driving enthusiasts.

Out of curiosity, why mixed brands on the pads? And which EBC did you use?

I would have used Girodisc pads on the rear as well, but could not find specific rear pads from them for the Stinger. Actually at the time I was buying a couple months ago, rear pads in general were in shortage. I went with EBC Greenstuff.

So far the mixed setup has been excellent, and I can modulate the brake pressure essentially the same as with the stock setup, except now you get actual grab without having to slow pump when coming down from high speed. One slight difference from stock is that it takes a little bit more throttle than before to break the auto hold.

Better braking power and feel than stock? Interesting about the auto hold. I've heard good things about EBC on this car, as well as Girodisc.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Stopping power is definitely better. Regarding braking feel vs clean stock rotors and unglazed stock pads (not often in my experience) - it's hard to say, because I had gone so long already with the stock setup that my braking confidence and behavior at high speeds had changed. With the Girodisc/EBC setup I've just gone back to natural behavior - braking without strategizing the stop. :p

I have 27,000 miles on my GT2 and had the dreaded brake shudder. Dealership replaced the rotors about a year ago but it came back within a few months. Took it back in last week and the prescription was once again to replace all 4 rotors. Tried to convince them that it was the pads but they said that their hands were tied and they had to do what Kia says, which was to replace the rotors. Didn't want the Kia OEM pads anyway and of course Kia would not replace the pads with aftermarket so I bit the bullet and bought girodiscs for the front (not available for the rears) and stoptechs for the rears from Khartunerz. Dealership did agree to install the new pads free of charge at the same time they put on the new rotors. Brakes feel good now and I hope that now the problem is permanently solved.

Well put. And yet another strong argument for Kia to finally match brake performance with the drivetrain.

In regards to braking prowess, I understand the Stinger is a heavy car but right foot acuity plays a larger part than one would believe. I'm on Euro pads of course but to test out the braking system in a very safe place at low pace I performed a left foot brake and nearly went through the window. Of course one can't heel and toe an automatic so my left leg muscle memory adaptions are lacking.

I don't accept sub par braking systems because in the past on a highway some (interesting fellow) saw fit to perform an emergency stop at 70MPH. Due to some decent Brembo's I was safe, can't say the same for three other cars that smashed into the back of them.

I will unequivocally agree though, decent pads are very important. The fact that they'd upgrade the pads for European consumption says it all really.!
