Hi All,

Posting this to see if anyone else has had this issue. On medium acceleration, in 2/3 gear in the 1000-2000 rpm range, there is a rattle noise that sounds like it is coming from behind the engine (potentially the transmission). Only posting this thread to see if anyone has heard this coming from their transmission, or is it a clamp on the exhaust I have that might have come a bit loose near the cat (I have an aftermarket exhaust (X-Force Varex) that was installed about 6-7 months ago).

Let me know any thoughts - will be getting the car placed up on a hoist on Monday to have a look, but wondering if I should take straight to Kia first. Did road trip the car recently for 2000km, noticed it when I got home.

Thanks all.

EDIT: Took the car for a drive alongside a wall on both sides of the vehicle (1 lane) - noise definitely coming from passenger side area, seems to be when there is considerable pressure being pushed through the exhaust - has anyone else had this? For example, if in first gear stopped, and quickly blimp the accelerator, the rattle will occur when pressure sounds like its at its peak. If I keep the car locked in 2/3 gear low rpm and accelerate the rattle will occur while under throttle.

Let the dealer work it out...

Definitely make sure nothing has come loose. But, given the description, it could be a turbo or BOV failure. Make sure the tubing is connected to both BOVs also.

Thanks all,

Turns out to be the reasonator (yet another issue with the XForce Varex System that only has done 10,000km) - there is a piece inside that has come loose/broken - I'm replacing with Borla catback anyway which will fix the issue. Thanks for the replies!

I am getting a weird rattle in the engine tranny area, thought is was exhaust at first but it is "tinnier" then exhaust sounds. Took a look underneath and tightened a few things up, but the problem didn't change. Found that there is a tin guard on the motor mounts that sound just like the noise but it seems surprising given the mileage. Any thoughts? Only happens under a load

I’ve been getting some noise on the driver side not sure what it is but it’s after I’ve done a good run it seem to make weird rattle noise at the left side seem to be right behind the cluster of something

One thing my mechanic did to help find the source, was lift the car up and tried to emulate the load in 3rd gear from low rpm. It was enough to find the source of the rattle in the resonator. Not sure if this helps, but mine did not sound like it was the exhaust and I felt like it was near the transmission (which concerned me) - but it was actually towards the back of the car and was the exhaust. I would take it into the dealer/shop and let them investigate if you can easily replicate under load.

Inside the vehicle or outside?

I feel like I hear about so many issues with these variable exhausts. I think the concept is great but with all the valves and actuators and stuff it doesnt urprise me they're more problematic.

I did have that as well, but mine went away when I changed exhausts (as the drone and vibrations from my last one was so immense, the phone tray cover trim and steering column started to generate a rattle under load).

Yeah, I did leave a full review of my experience here, I believe the quality was simply sub-par. I had two shops (my mechanic and exhaust place) say that it is cheap and nasty. Was going to sell it, but I don't think I could willing sell it to another Stinger member with my overall experience.

That’s what I was going to say all along...screw with the aftermarket mechanicals and there’s a good place to start looking.
