A buddy convinced me to purchase an OBD2 sensor for the Stinger and an iPhone app to get readings.

I have to say it’s pretty interesting and fairly cheap. The app is $9 and the sensor was ~$22. You can access probably about 100 different readings while driving and can record your trips along with the information. You can get fuel rate, engine load, mpg, and plenty more. It allows you to build your own radial or digital gauges. You can modify every aspect of the gauges...down to how long, skinny and outline of the radial gauges.

Will be interested to see this information after an ecu tune or piggyback.

Does it give a boost reading?
Yes. It also allows you to set min/max to what you want. So let’s say you had over 40lbs of boost... you could set it higher. Doubt you’d have 80, but just to show...

Yea no kidding. Was looking for a place on my dash to stick a magnet for my phone...not too many spots. Was hoping to use my old iPad to display more gauges.

Could we please have a pic of the OBDII sensor unit plugged in thanks!

The sensor is only about 1.5”x2” and it initially looked as though it would stick down too far because of Kia’s placement of the port, but it actually turned out just fine. I leave it plugged in at all times and have never come close to hitting it.

I’d say between my leg and the sensor, I have a good 10” of distance.

What app did you buy? I've been looking for a good one.

The app that I use is called OBD Fusion. I believe there are other apps that work with this sensor.

The following are stated to work on iOS with the sensor I bought:
OBD Fusion, DashCommand, Dash - Smarter Driving, OBD Auto Doctor, TrackAddict, Leaf Spy

Sensor I bought:

There's not a canned option for the Stinger GT yet. So you have to enter a lot of your own parameters, which I don't have. Did you do any of that?

Only thing I really needed to set was the manufacturer and the liter of the motor to 3.3 and it was off and running.

I selected about 40 PIDs for my ride home today to see what gets reported and how during my trip. I don’t expect Kia to have a sensor on every component of the car, but hopefully I’ll have a better idea of what they do have.

As long as they have sensors, this should pick it up.

FYI for anyone considering this or any other OBDII accessory:

Since the port is in a horrible location which makes things stick out, you can buy an extension cable such as this one that I bought from Amazon that has a flat bottom, and can extend up into the fuse cover area.

I bought one for my T-Mobile SyncUp Drive and it hides it perfectly and the entire thing fits under the fuse box cover very easily.

You might also have luck with splitters if you want multiple accessories.

So I was able to check several of the PIDs. It appears, at least for now...you can’t read turbo rpm, inlet pressure, outlet pressure, wastegate position and engine oil temp. ***However, the app gauges WILL show boost psi.

There were plenty that did record during my trip. Absolute throttle %, ambient air temp, engine rpm, fuel system status, intake air temp and relative throttle position %.

Below is a small ~10 mike trip I did. The apps legend and colors change based on which PID you want to see. You can zoom into the map from the app to see a better breakdown.

Max boost?

Max boost?
No PID for max boost, but for the gauges, you can set the boost min/max to whatever you want. I have my boost gauge in the app set to 40, like the Stinger, and see 15lbs.

That's the info I'm looking for. I have a bluetooth LE OBD2 sensor and OBD Fusion but, until I get a decent phone holder solution, I've not gone further than setting it up in Park. Thanks!

These are the ones I like in my G8. Soft rubber prongs slip over a vertical or horizontal outlet vent blade. Very strong magnet and very secure yet easy to remove or reposition.

I tried that type on a previous vehicle and didn't like the vent being blocked. Also, I found that I could no longer aim the vent as the weight of the mount and phone kept the vent pointed downwards. Something that clips to the 8" display or the top of the dash with a flexible arm (instead of the short, fixed ones that create their own "heads-up-display" of the phone) seem to me to be a good answer.

I've also seen one that mounts to the floor or console/transmission tunnel with a flexible piece snaking upwards however you wish. It just looked like that flexible piece was too short and I wasn't comfortable with screwing something into my new car.

For now, the front-most cupholder keeps my Pixel2XL in place OK. I just can't see it easily without taking my eyes off the road. So I'm not using phone-only apps much at all.

Hopefully the Android versions will update to transfer to the 8" LCD in the Stinger.
