Trunk/Hatch dimensions?

One potentially great attraction of the Stinger is that it is said to be a lift back with foldable rear seats giving an expansive luggage space, much like the BMW 430i Gran Coupe, which is said to be the model followed by the Stinger. Here are some comments excerpted from the Web:

I haven't seen any numbers on the trunk space in the Stinger, but it is likely to be comparable to the BMW 430i Gran Coupe.For me, the attraction is being able to carry my bicycle inside the car rather than on a hitch-mounted rack or the roof.

From my image observations only, the boot does looks long and wide enough,but somewhat shallow, so maybe a decent sized spare wheel lives under the trunk floor perhaps.

I'm not that lucky to go on many vacations but I do plan on beach days and a long weekend every now and then. When you say "under the trunk floor" do you mean outside beneath the car? Underneath? Or in a compartment inside the trunk floor? I feel like that's a silly question.

The Germans appear to have much deeper (vertically) compartments than the Stinger. Hard to tell without seeing them in the flesh but the other two may have more utility. Another "nice to have" on the Gran Coupe and A5 is the ski pass through in the middle rear seat which folds the centre armrest down and allows long items that won't completely fit in the trunk to pass into the cabin. To do that in the Stinger (and in my Sonata) means you sacrifice at least one outboard seating position.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Stinger and think it's going to do well versus the competition. It just seems in terms of capacity / utility with the rear seats up it may not be as useful as the others for those trips to wine country where you're buying cases not bottles.

Hi Rob. From the pictures you think the Grand Coupe and A5 have more room? I was under the impression the Stinger is a bigger car than those it competes against. It'll be great once we get some solid specifications which can't be too far off.

Like I said we'll need to see them in the flesh. In the pictures I saw the A5 definitely had a deeper floor than the picture above. The Sportback has been out in Europe since 2009 (according to Wikipedia) so perhaps the picture I saw was the revised model being released in North America. First World Problems being spoiled with all these choices.

I would think so. At least one of them. That's pretty common practice nowadays.

It's got folding seats.  Here's a picture of the trunk with the rear seat seam.

I suppose it's possible that only one of the two portions folds, but that seems pretty unlikely.

yeah that looks pretty fold downable to me. i guess it would be foolish to have seats that didn't fold down and it's not like that would be an expensive endeavor.

Here's what @hej just said in another discussion.

trunk volume of 406L (I assume that's liters), or about 14.3 cubic feet. That's without the seats folded, apparently, and it's also ever so slightly more than my A6.

The current spec being reported is 14.3 cubic feet with the seats up. I don't recall dimentions with the seats folded.

Keep in mind the Stinger does employ a space saver spare.

I think one should be possible. I can fit 2 bikes in a Mazda 6 Wagon and form the picture it doesn't look THAT much smaller

Are you concerned about having to remove the front wheel? I can get a large-frame mountain bike in my Golf if I remove the wheel, so I'm anticipating no issues in this car, perhaps even with the wheel still on (although I'd probably remove it anyway).

I believe the Stinger is sized between the A5 and A7; this photo is reportedly from the A7.

You guys with special needs may have to wait to compare, maybe only seeing in person will give you your final answer. This old guy has no such needs, my 3-wheel mobility scooter will fit easily beside the luggage, so I will be happy with storage space.
