Another old newbie with my new GT2, a Kia?

Just picked up my red gt2 yesterday, I think I'm gonna love this car. Found this site and it asked me to introduce myself, I'm just another old fart looking for a car to enjoy. I think I will.
Been there, done that, don't mind discussing. It's all good!

Welcome aboard, @JohnG7! And thank you for signing up. Yes, what car will the Stinger be replacing? Don't worry, there are lots of old farts around here - including me. You're in good company...

Thanks all, the car I traded in was a 2010 BMW Z4 that I've had a few years. Loved it, but it had served it's purpose and was time to let it go. This car is sort of for the wife, her 328i gets turned in off lease in a few months. Problem being, I might not want to give it up at that point. I retired last week (was an operator most of my life - chemical and oil), maybe this car is my entertainment for now.

The wife and I had our hopes pinned on blue, the white was fine too, but the red- it came home with us. The blue was not to be found (unless awd) by my dealer, the wife loves white but has only had white cars 15 years, and the red was there. Black is great, but demands more efforts than I'm willing. This red GT2 checked off all the boxes that matter, I don't regret this choice.

Honestly all our Stingers look great, differences make things that much better. I am impressed by Kia making this car at this price point. The Stinger is a lot of car, it has a lot of great competition. I really never really thought I'd own a Kia, never gave it much thought, but here I am retired and driving a Kia!!! Who'dathunkit?

I'm trying to learn my way around here and trying not to push the wrong buttons. Tried quoting but things are different here. Anyway:

It is quite a big change, but is not one I regret. It was getting along at 8 years old (a 2010 S30i) but I loved the old N52 normally aspirated engine, yet it's all old technology. A lot of BMW is older technology than what I'm finding in my new Kia. The wife said go ahead and look at whatever you want, I trust your judgement. Well, I said I found it. I found the car for us. She said which one, I said it's a Kia. Yeah right. No, really, and your gonna love it. I don't want a Kia. And especially not a red one.

I have a Red GT2 sitting in the garage and it's got top spot over her lowly bimmer. I'll not say anything bad about BMW cars, the ones I have owned over the last 20 years have been great. But, this Kia is much more car dollar for dollar than anything BMW offers. Again. if you are willing to spend the coin, you'll enjoy your time in that BMW. I now will get that same enjoyment, but from my Kia.

I don't feel that this is a back step at all. Yes, the Kia is not quite as nice in certain areas, I really don't mind. I love my GT2 !!!

But there is...SOMETHING about this car that is engaging a wide variety of buyers from a genuinely emotional place. It's pretty amazing, actually! Root around these boards and you'll find plenty of "I never thought..." and "I'm giggling like a kid" anecdotes. Cheers!

So far, I gotta say- I like the Stinger and the folks buying them seem fine. Yeah, it's a Kia. What about that? It's not like any Kia you know, and I don't regret squat.

Thanks Rufus (and others). Yep, when I drove my Stinger I knew my car search was over. There indeed is SOMETHING about this car that is engaging. Maybe not to all, that is fine. I say drive what makes you happy and don't give a crap what others think! Why does what others think matter? It doesn't, you matter.

I suspect that as some of us get older, the badge status is not as important any longer. I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I buy cars for me, and the wife always defers to my judgement. I'm an old guy by most standards -- maybe hold the title for the oldest Stinger buyer at 74, dunno. But I'm a driver and a car nut from the '60's when I couldn't afford a new car because of college. I was 26 before I owned my first car and 29 before my first new one -- and never bought a used car since then. I spent a day at the Bondurant High Performance Driving School in Arizona back in '69 and I was a part-time sheriff's deputy for 20 years and had some pursuit driving training. Add to that a stint in the '80's as a GM-Subaru-BMW service manager, and I know cars and still enjoy the heck out of them.

So I did my research, and ordered a GT1 AWD. Never considered a Kia, but if you spend any time with the automotive media you trip over it. I love the technology on this beast. I just hope enough open-minded drivers are left from the UV crowd (no, they are not SPORT utility vehicles) to keep the Stinger on the front burner for Kia. I'll do some rebadging of my GT, but not all of the KIA logos will go. Most car people will know what it is, non-car people won't and won't care, and neither do I.

Well, a neighbor really likes the HiChroma Red GT2 also. He bought one. 3 doors down, another red Stinger...

I gotta say, it looks good, but dam! At least I rebadged mine already and mine is tinted...

welcome to the hive. did someone call my name, old fart? thats chef old fart. congrats on your stinger. the mrs and i have a running bet to see who gets to drive. i lose. a lot! funny, don't know if anybody else experiences this, but, upon waking in the morning, i realize that i think i am 18, look like i am 50 but feel like i am 104. nothing says old when you stand up and realize that your knees aren't left and right anymore, but, ouch that hurts and what the hell dude.
