Is This Normal?

For my Stinger GT, it takes 1 full second from the time I floor the gas pedal until the car starts to accelerate. For literally 1 second the car does nothing, then it kicks in like a bat out of hell. I tested and timed this numerous times in different situations, all with the same result. This is my first turbo vehicle and wasn't sure if this is normal? In my previous NA vehicles the acceleration was instantaneous. One second many not sound like a long time, but it definitely feels like it.

Is this similar to other Stingers?

My mods...intake, exhaust, ECU tune, BMS pedal tuner (on the most aggressive setting). 394.95whp/428.56wtq

Honestly every once in awhile I'll get this issue. I almost wonder if peddle tuners will help or maybe something mechanical is going on?

It is normal if you're not using launch control. The RPMs have to reach at least 1300 for the turbos to boost. Launch control takes the starting RPM to over 2200, so boost has already kicked in before you let go of the brake. I almost never use launch control, because I am not trying to compare 0-60 times, and I never race. But that doesn't mean I don't mash the kickdown switch when I have pole position at a light, on a road that has at least 45 MPH speed limit. I'll do a rolling start; because I've found that mashing the kickdown switch in auto hold does exactly what you described; so, what is the point of mashing? Once the car is moving, a smooth, push to the kickdown switch rewards with instant boost. Anything from 1300 RPM up will boost instantly. This car's rolling start boost will trash almost anything else. It's the feature I love that provides "passing fast". :D

Sounds like it could be related to your tune? I have intake, exhaust, and the pedal tuner and even on the middle orange settings it is jumpy/quick to react. Maybe just use launch control at every light ;)

thx. this was very informative. i'll pay attention to the rpms you mentioned, especially 1300 for passing. i get the 1 second delay when passing too, but i never looked at my rpms to see where they were at before mashing the pedal. i've also never tried launch control, so i'll play with that too. :)

it's not the tune cuz it did this before the tune as well. it's very jumpy at all rpms...as long as i don't floor it. it's when i floor it that the 1 second delay is present.

Ah okay I see what you’re saying, like mrinfraction said it’s turbo lag and the car downshifting to a lower gear.

gothca. i'm becoming more used to it, but i find i have to anticipate some maneuvers ahead of time. like if i see a tight lane change window ahead, i can't floor it when i need to make the move, i need to do it a second before i need to make the move which can be tricky timing it out. of course, i could just not change lanes that require flooring it, but what fun would that be? :D

i'm guessing the answer is no, but are there any mods to minimize this one second turbo lag?

You can get " Wind Booster " or over here they are called " Sprint Boosters " they give you instant throttle response I have been told......

You may be able to use the paddles to drop a gear before you plant it. Remember the car is drive by wire, there is nothing physically connected to the transmission. Even the steering wheel is electronic.

I agree with Luc here. If your cruising on the highway with the car at a relatively low RPM (1500-1800) and you want to punch it, you absolutely want to downshift to bring the RPMs up. Not doing this causes the hesitation your taking about and can be realllly bad for GDI engines (see video below regarding LSPI). General rule is High-Load, High-RPM. If I'm on the highway and want to quickly pass someone, I'll downshift to get the RPMs up to 3000 or so...then step on it. As soon as I hit the throttle, the car instantly responds and she absolutely takes off. If you do this and the car still hesitates then there may be a problem. Try it and the only problem you'll have is your head slamming back into the headrest  Hope this helps

i will definitely try this out. thx!!

Quite possibly.....anyone can step in here,I haven't done any major mods except exhaust change and I don't know that much about engines etc, more likely close to zero actually :)

You haven’t thought about getting one then Flame.
Thinking about it.....I'll wait and see what a couple of our country mates say after their installations of it.
