Windows Tint. How dark is too dark?

Depends of course on the officer. Lots of young "cuff 'em an' stuff 'em cops out there. Also depends on why your were stopped, the neighborhood, etc. etc. The basic problem is that if an officer can see your hands, (s)he knows if you are armed or not. There are some very nervous cops in some places due to recent shootings and ambushes.

Check Amazon for better floss.
I haven't been pulled over in a long time. So I want to know whatever I can to make the officers job easier. I always keep my hands visible during any stop.

Simple advice on tint and police - roll down the window or if for any reason you cannot, open your sunroof visor to let any available light in - and/or turn on the interior light so that you can be seen inside the car. Place both hands on the steering wheel in such a way that they're clearly visible. Use common sense, that's all...

Good advice. The main thing is, don't reach for stuff in the car, ask for permission to get your insurance papers out of the glovebox, keep hands in plain sight.

Yep, I don't know how many situations I've gotten out of because I was courteous, kept my hands on the steering wheel at all times, and asked permission/ told the officer exactly what I was doing and where I was reaching. They are always very grateful.

I have a large amount of respect for the job that law enforcement officers do and will do whatever I can to make their lives less stressful.

Regarding the tint thing, I've been going back and forth. If it did anything I'd keep it pretty light: maybe 50% VLT. I definitely like being able to make eye contact with other folks on the road. On the other hand we do have pretty intense sun here and I'm at around 5000' of elevation which makes it even worse. A little additional UV protection for the interior may be a good thing.

It's always a compromise, I think @EchoesMyron. If you are forced to leave your car outdoors during the day (at work) then the ambient temperature might be an indicator of whether tinting is better or not. No additional tinting lets the sun warm the car during a cold winter day. UV rays can cause damage over extended time periods on upholstery and dash-plastics but it takes years. Then there is the sheer look of tinted windows if that's your thing.

For me, I use sunglasses and leave things alone. Less suspicious that way. Saves money, too.

I plan to have F1 Pinnacle Ceramic tint installed this upcoming Wens morning (15% rear glass/30% sides).

Ahh yes that is when I'm doing it also RMA. So we will have to compare pics. I think I may go 20 on the rear and back sides, and 30 on the front sides. I have always like it dark in the cab and also like the privacy aspect of that. I also live in a desert area where we get like 300 days of sunshine a year, so love that protection also

I plan on going very dark past the legal limit like I have on my Optima and Sorrento once my stinger arrives. In mn we can only go 50% but it is very easy to go to your local eye doctor and complain about your sensitive eyes and you can request a prescription for much darker tint and an eyebrow. 20% all the way around with an eyebrow is my recipe.

That's what I did as well - 20% all around with 50% on the windshield from top to bottom and a 5% strip on top for the sun and to offset the windshield tint...

I used to do my whole windshield 50%when I was living in S Fla still.. but I also used to get snagged by FHP on the turnpike all the time because of it too... It didnt help that all my other windows were 5%... but hell, it was S Fla, that heat will kill you in the summer..

Man, those 5% windows must have been DARK. And with 50% on the windshield, even darker! I used to do 5% all the time and loved that feeling - I know you know what I'm talking about. :p

Welp got er done, picked it up last night. Did the 20% all the way around, and added a brow also.. Looks good so far. Although I've only really seen it in the dark or in the garage so far. Try and sneak out and take some pics of it today, though the weather is not great here today.

Strange that the stinger has no gradient tint on the front windshield at all.. I think this is the first car I have ever owned that didn't have some sort of tint on the upper quarter of the windshield.

That is kind of unusual but I've seen it missing on a few cars over the past few years. I'm not sure why anybody wouldn't want it there...

So a couple of pics for reference. 20% Galaxy Black Tint, with a Brow.

Very nice! Did you tint the sunroof as well?

I had 15% ceramic tint installed this weekend and had 70% installed on the sunroof too. It hasn’t been sunny enough or hot enough yet to determine if it will make much difference however I figured with how big the glass is and how well ceramic worked on my last car it was worth it.
