Hello All,

First time poster here, so I hope I'm posting in the right place. I bought a 2018 Micro Blue Kia Stinger GT on December 10th, and I enjoy MOST of the car. But there are some real bothering things happening with this car, and I'll just list them here in no particular order:

- When unlocking the car, the drivers mirror comes only halfway out about 70% of the time, while the passenger side mirror rotates completely out. It requires me to start the car, or hit unlock a second time to rotate the drivers side view mirror completely out.
- Circulating air will shutoff every 5 minutes and go back to outside air, no matter what air mode I am in, and even when the AC/Fan system is off. This is extremely annoying, especially when its cold outside and the "Smart Ventilation" turns on...
- "Smart Ventilation" turns on regardless of if I want NO air movement in my car... I have no control over this. Sometimes people have colds or just dont want air moving in the cabin, let alone from the outside....
- The car downshifts EXTREMELY hard, regardless of what mode I am in. Even comfort and eco. When my foot is resting on the brake slowing down, and then it downshifts and throws my head forward, this is not acceptable. I understand this for sport mode, but not for EVERY mode. Whats the point of a COMFORT mode if my head gets whiplash from downshifting...
- My Trip dial(?) gets reset every night. So regardless of when I filled my tank or if I want to track MPGs for a tank or trip, I cannot do this. No, the setting is set to reset on fill up. I tried reset manually, and reset in the off position, doesn't stop it from reseting.

I love driving the car outside of these issues, but with so many issues piling up its really starting to bother me. If anyone has any help they can lend, of if you are having the same issues please let me know that I just didnt get the one stinger that was rushed off the floor for delivery...

Thanks,
Scott

Do you have smart ventilation turned off? If you turn it off in the settings and do a restart, it SHOULD stay off. I found it annoying too but after disabling it, it's a distant memory.

As for the trip meter, I turned off the reset feature and use the second one to keep track of each tank, manually resetting after each fill up. The first one appears to be for each trip; not sure the point of that but maybe somebody finds it useful.

The mirror not unfolding and the rough downshift sound like issues for a tech to diagnose; I don't have either of them so they're not normal.

Good luck!

I have my average fuel economy gauge to reset after filling up. So the entire tank is averaged before it resets. The accumulated trip is a physical reset and will track like a tripometer. The other gauge is a running total that resets after four hours of inactivity, i believe.

Do you have a GT as well? Notice hardf downshifts in sport or any other mode?

Also one that I forgot to mention, the most annoying one. When I depress the brake pedal, 20% of the time there is resistance, and it requires quite a bit of force to move the pedal, and with brembo brakes once that force is applied the cars brakes engage hard (obviously). The issue is that I have to press that hard to engage them. It feels as though the pedal gets stuck, or some sort of braking part gets stuck and I have to push it past its threshold, resulting in a really hard braking situation.

I have a GT2 and don’t have any of these issues. Transmission is smooth and breaks works like any other car. You need to take it in to the dealer. Those aren’t normal problems. Sounds like you need a new motor in your mirror. I had issues with my Optima brand new doing the same thing. They are easily damaged in shipping per the dealer. I got it replaced and no issues after that.

Go to your nearest Kia dealer and get these things fixed bro. No bueno!

Welcome aboard, @Scott! Thank you for signing up. Sorry to hear about these issues you're having. Kia is going to have to fix that driver's mirror issue. It's not exactly a COMMON problem - but it's been known to happen. It's an easy fix. As for the, @CO-bound asked if you have "smart ventilation" turned off. He said, "If you turn it off in the settings and do a restart, it SHOULD stay off. I found it annoying too but after disabling it, it's a distant memory.". And have you gone through the settings for the circulation issue?

As for the brakes, definitely get that into the dealership to see what's going on there as it's a safety issue. The transmission learns your driving habits and maybe something got confused. I'm guessing the dealership will reset it's memory to start over again. That should fix the hard downshifting issue...

I will look into Smart Ventilation today and see if I can turn off the setting. Yes, maybe the downshifting was learned on the miles before I took ownership.

The transmission learns your driving habits

Would someone be able to provide a page reference on this? I've heard of it in other vehicles but never in relation to the Stinger. My assumption was that because there are different driving modes, learning is unnecessary.

I reread your post and I see what you're referring to regarding the system switching to outside air; try the steps below and see if it helps....

I could be wrong because every other Kia model has a transmission that learns in all modes, but I think the Stinger will only learn/adapt to you in Smart mode.

I certainly hope only Smart "learns" because my wife gets the new car this time around and it will be her daily driver. Needless to say, we don't drive alike.

I experienced the same which eventually built up to be quite annoying. I'll be asking about this downshift issue at my dealer when I bring my car in tomorrow for the rattle noise.

I think I mentioned this elsewhere, but my 2016 Optima had the same issue, and the forums indicated I wasn't alone. The 2017 Optima I traded into does not have the problem, and I understand Kia issued an update that fixed it in the 2016's.

Now, the 6spd in my Optima and the 8sp in the Stinger are obviously different, but the point is that it is a software issue, and Kia probably has a fix for it.

Correct, my 2016 Optima got a firmware update that improved downshifts. I haven't noticed the same thing in my Stunger at all though...

My stinger is at 21k miles now. But have had the following issues right from the get go. Anyone have issues with the memory seat side bolster not going back to the programmed setting? It’s very annoying that it responds intermittently. I have my seat set to move back when I turn off the car so I can get in and out easily, which also causes the side bolsters to go back to the default setting. But when I turn the car back on, the memory seats go back to the correct setting except the side bolsters. The side bolsters respond intermittently. Also, using the Bluetooth or Apple car play for a phone call, the speakers don’t revert back to all speakers playing sound, only the back speakers come back on. This happens intermittently too. I have reset the radio and even had Kia reset the system for both the seats and radio and still not fixed! Lastly has anyone had issues with the car rough idling or also jumping forward when the auto shut off is disengaged?

I would be cautious w/ any update to the trans, it's been said that it neuters the performance.
Thought there was on post on here regarding the potential.
