2018 GT2 - Possible (Engine) Lifter Issues?

Hi all,

I have a 2018 GT 2 with 46k miles and I'm noticing when it's cold or cool out in the morning, after starting the car I hear a ticking sound. The ticking is coming from the engine bay and if the engine raises the rpm's the ticking gets quicker. I don't know for certain if it eventually goes away or is just less pronounced as it gets warmer.

Has anyone experienced this or know what it might be? Thinking lifter issue...

It's probably the normal sound of the GDI fuel pumps which has a tendancy to be even louder in the cold, does the sounds go away after about 30-45sec when the rpm drops at startup to idle and you don't hear it anymore until the next startup?

You're safe.. there are no lifters in the Stinger engine.

I don't think it goes away and don't remember ever hearing this sound in the 2 years I've owned the car

I've always heard "ticking" for up to 30 seconds after a cold start. I assumed it was the solid lifters warming up and expanding into spec clearance values.

Edit: Just watched your video. I think it's time for a valve clearance check

Hmm... I just don't recall this happening before and I work in QA so I'm sensitive to rattles/squeaks/ticks etc...

Identical, NO. The sound is initially a bit louder but quiets within 30 seconds.

Now that I'm thinking of it, you could be getting some crud accumulating on the valves which is not uncommon with direct injection (especially Turbo) motors. This is why oil catch cans are becoming popular and in SOME new cars (BMW & Audi) are factory equipment. I'm no expert but just tossing it out there.

I think just to be safe I'll take it in still especially since I'm only 15k away from my warranty ending.

Pretty sure this has been discussed here a thousand times that there are no lifters and that it's the fuel pump that you hear and ALL stingers have it and for those that don't hear it should get their hearing checked

This is normal lol,blip the gas pedal and it goes away

Mine had similar sound like yours and its normal, at least to me. I hear this sound when the Stinger is brand new and had 14 miles and now it had 28,000 miles. I am no expert, but I am use to the sound and eventual the ticking will go away after 1-2 minutes of warm up.

Service charge code will probably be ID-10-T..

Lifters tend to quiet on bucket/shim style bike engine valve train ....likely same on these as tolerances tend to close over time

Same here...ticking sound on both my 2020 GT2 and my Kia K900 (same engine as the GT2) on start up.
