How do I send a Private Message on this forum? I feel like I’m just missing it somewhere but I’ve looked on the profile pages and conversations.

I’m on mobile but have “requested desktop site” and gotten the same pages.

Sorry. There is no private messaging for new members as we've had too many malicious users sign up and share links to viruses and various types of malware. It's a sad state of affairs online these days...

Also, while some software calls direct messages (messages sent directly to one specific user or specific set of users) "private messages" - this software calls them "conversations"...

Ahh ok thanks. I thought that might have been the case too

So when is one no longer a "new member"?
That's actually a well-kept secret. :p Otherwise we'd have the malicious bots easily preconfigured to post X amount of times before moving onto direct messages - which are out of sight and will not be reported. This leaves us wide open for bad things...

Oh, and don't go by your "user title" of "new member". The user title is unrelated to the spam settings...

I only asked because I wanted to PM another user a few days ago, and was unable to. Was a bit bummed about it.
I definitly do not feel like a "New Member" anymore. :)

Seems like if you are a "sustaining member" the system could be programmed to ignore your new member status. I doubt many bots are going to pay money to post trash..

Are you still unable to start conversations/direct messages? Try starting one with me...

I just realized Luminary still has the "new member" moniker. Looking into this now...

I just updated the member hierarchy/ladder as it wasn't working before. However, this didn't change anything to do with permissions. Luminary's permissions were always there - it's just that while other software calls direct messages "private messages" - this software calls them "conversations"...

It can be - and has been since day one.

Yup, my bad. I kept looking for "Private Message" or "PM" on the user's profile page. Thanks for the help, and for holding my hand. :)

So.... any tips on becoming not a new member? I have no intent on spamming people via messages, but it would be nice to not have to do negotiations on the message boards in the classifieds if possible.

Just contribute to some of the discussions, it will change by itself.

Ask the person who is selling an item to send you a private message.

Still have member status and no "conversation" options
Where are you looking? If you hover over (on a PC), or click (mobile) another members icon, then you should see a button for "start conversation".
