If only there was somewhere else in the car that displays speed... something that determines the speed based on RPM, gear selection, final gear ratio, and tire revs per mile...Using Australian Version 12.47.51.632.001.2 (V12.0).
The speed limit appears ok on map, but does not show current car speed? Or have I missed a setting?.
Because map does not show current speed on map, and with a car speedo error of up to 10%, I do not know my actual current speed. I know I can use an app on my phone to use GPS and get accurate speed, but this is not convenient. The GPS on the car sat nav should display the speed of the car
My very old TomTom displays both speed limit and current speed.
It doesn’t show current speed, but the speed limit sign will turn red if you go over what it thinks is the posted speed limit. Also the map speed limits aren’t always accurate. They only get updated once a year and don’t keep pace with changes to roads etc. You’ve got an analogue speedo, digital speedo, and it displays speed on the HUD. Why would you want it to display on the map or be watching the map anyway? It’s accurate to within about 3km. GPS isn’t always accurate either depending on how many satellites it’s pinging and the signal strength. Stick to what your speedo says and you shouldn’t have a problemUsing Australian Version 12.47.51.632.001.2 (V12.0).

GPS speed on my dashcam sits 3km below what the Stinger says so 110 is 107, but I haven’t bothered to check it with another GPS. Not sure how accurate the dashcam would be. That being said even if you worked out true speed and we’re sitting on 110 in a 110 zone, there’s always going to be some dickhead who will fly past you like you’re standing still. I find mornings and afternoons tradies in Hilux or Rangers seem to think they’re driving race cars and either tailgate or fly past. As long as you’re not getting tickets for going over then consider your Stinger speedo accurate enough and enjoy the drive. Those extra couple of kms won’t make a difference anyway. Thanks, good point on the speed limit sign turning red.
The reason for wanting an accurate source for speed is so I don't need to keep doing calculations to get correct speed.
e.g. travel at 110km per hour according to both digital and analogue speedos, but they both under record by about 3.9%, so true speed only 105km per hour. And if travel at only 105k per hour in a 110 km per hour zone causes hassles with the other traffic
For years used my old tomtom in another car and it showed GPS speed which was mainly very accurate.
So as Stinger has build in sat nav with GPS access, thought it would also show gps speed. But from other feedback received above, it is not currently displayed anywhere on map screen
The speed on the HUD is the best place to look. Right in front of you. I rarely look down at the dash.It doesn’t show current speed, but the speed limit sign will turn red if you go over what it thinks is the posted speed limit. It is less because it is GPS based so it is more accurate than car speedo where the difference varies dependant on tire size etc.I just noticed this evening using Waze navigation that it shows your speed on the screen. Always a bit less than the actual Stinger speedo.
Yeh I know that the car speedo is never completely accurate. So I know I can always do about 5 over the limit without bothering the speed cameras. It is less because it is GPS based so it is more accurate than car speedo where the difference varies dependant on tire size etc.
Your 'friend' sounds like a bit of a hoon.My HUD shows 72 when I am driving a steady 70mph per GPS.
A "friend of mine" has a stinger that reads 104 at 100mph, and 133 at 130.

GPS speed on phone works very well. All the others you mention need maths and there are too many variables in the calculations. So far stinger speedo shows 60kmh vs actual off gps 57kmh, and at 80kmh vs actual speed off gps 77kmhIf only there was somewhere else in the car that displays speed... something that determines the speed based on RPM, gear selection, final gear ratio, and tire revs per mile...
If only.....
Hmmm
Not talking about the HUD, the speed limit icon on the GPS/map display will be a red circle with white background and black numbers. When you go over the speed limit that same icon changes the numbers to red and it blinks to indicate you’re over the posted limit. The HUD is a red circle with white numbers and doesn’t change regardless of speed being driven.Thanks. For info on mine the speed limit sign just stays red, whether under or over speed limit on HUD
