I have a 2018 AWD stinger. If i get in my car when its been sitting for hours and start to drive it will pull hard forward without hitting the gas. So twice now that there is snow on the ground I get into my car put it in drive with my foot on the brake and my back tires are spinning while I'm not moving. one other time i started to drive not touching the gas and my car is sliding across the parking lot while I'm pressing the gas! anyone ever hear of this problem with these cars in the winter???????

How high is the idle? I had an Impala years ago that idled high. In fact, if you just let it go, on the flat it would get up to 30 MPH without touching the gas pedal. Heh! I got used to holding the car with the brake. But it was not safe. With these electrified/programmed cars these days, it could be something software related. I have nothing more to add. Sorry.

Old. What caused high idle back then probably wouldn't have anything to do with the cause of it now; or at least not something that simple. It's all I can think of that would make a car take off like that in "D" (or "R" for that matter).

How long are you taking before putting it into drive? On an initial cold start, the idle is fairly high, around 1250-1300 RPM in my car. If you don't let it idle down, there's definitely a pronounced lunge forward. I let mine idle about 20 or so seconds before setting off.

This only happens during a cold start and I pretty much started my car and put it into drive (didn't sit there and let it warm up)... wasn't an issue until now that we have snow on the ground. Seems rather unsafe/not right having a car spinning the back wheels or pushing you across an icy park lot even while holding the brake if you don't sit there and let it warm up before putting it in drive!

Try leaving it in "P" for most of a minute before shifting to "D". Listen for the RPMs to come down first, at least. But it does sound like your car idles higher than normal. If that were my issue, I'd be talking to the service department pronto. That should be easy to duplicate if you leave your car overnight or all day, then come back after work and do a cold start for them on the spot.

I had the same issue when I first got the Stinger. I would start it, put it in drive, release the foot brake and it would take off, spreading gravel from my drive everywhere. I’m sure the neighbours thought I was trying to be a boy racer . The idle when cold is quite high. I usually wait about 20 seconds and it settles down and then release the brake.

All modern cars now with direct injection have a set idle of 30 seconds before calming down. You used to have to let your car warm up and idle drop on it's own if you wanted to properly warm up the car before driving but now days you just have to wait 30 seconds and then it electronically drops the idle down. I usually start the car first thing and then put on my seat belt, plug in my phone, hit all my buttons (turn off auto start stop, seat ventilation/heat, and change modes). By the time I do all that and find a playlist to listen to, it's ready to roll.

On the dry concrete it does move quite fast (this is at roughly 1.2k rpm), faster than creeping at a red light, so I'd surmise what everyone is responding with to make sense.
When reading the original post, it almost sounds like idle is like at 1.5k to 2k rpm but I could be wrong (we don't know what tires you have nor what rpm you're shifting to D nor really how icy the road is)
