What size are they? I just received mine and they are 4" od round lol. These will never fit.

63mm x 89mm. Measured the actual diameter of the carbon fiber looking part and it’s about 3-3/4 inches

You can probably fit them you just have to grind out more area. Mine are going in this weekend and they are 3.8" OD, I am going to make them fit I'm not sending anything back...
Everyone keeps saying if you put them in through the back, they’ll fit without grinding. You have to take the mufflers off to get them on, and that’s the reason I’m not installing. Not worth the hassle for me. Getting everything lined up was a pain and I don’t want to do it again

So let me make damn sure when everybody is saying to replace the mid pipe they're talking about the downpipe these big pieces of shit? to get rid of that nasty morning cold start an awful sound through certain RPMs this is what I need to reinstall?

Yep those are the secondary down pipes or midpipes.

I just find it hard to believe there's only one horsepower decrease running through these Cadillac converters and this squash down piping. now the mid pipe I could understand only losing 1 horsepower they're not restrictive at all there right straight through. I just don't want to go install these downpipes only to find out everybody meant the mid pipe because everybody keeps messing the terminology up there are downpipes and there are mid pipes they are not the same yet everybody seems to speak of them in the mias samed pipe down pipe.

I really want this exhaust, but not sure whether I should pull the trigger! My biggest fear is drone at highway speeds around 1800rpm as majority of my driving is on the motorway! I know the tips are available to minimise this but some are saying there is still drone after they installed the tips. I would have gone with the Xforce setup, but really dislike the sound/tone of the exhaust. Someone convince me to buy this thing!! :)

It doesn't drone at cruising speeds (well, a little at 90mph technically), but there is definitely a resonance at 2000-2200 rpm with the engine under load. Tips help but it's always gonna be there.

I need to spend some time and take more measurements, but here's the approximate frequency measured with my MiniDSP UMIK-1.

The exhaust sounds fantastic when you're really letting it eat, but the 2200rpm "moo" might annoy some folks.

I may try some 1/4 wave side branch resonators when I feel like breaking out the TIG and hacking up my $1k exhaust...

The picture you posted are the secondary downpipes, also called the midpipes on this and other forums. Everything beyond that is the cat-back exhaust (ie x-pipe and rear section make up the cat-back).

And I agree, the terminology is silly and convoluted. That said, it's always important to specify primaries or secondaries when talking about downpipes on this car.

Any cat back is going to drone, tips or no tips. More airflow means more noise and vibration. The stingers body and the cavernous hatch design seems to have a resonance right around those low RPM frequencies. The only way your getting away from that is to add sound reducing material.

It is my firm belief that this is why the stock exhaust is so restrictive and quiet.

Ok others might disagree with me but the MBRP exhaust really isn’t much louder than stock. In fact the first time (and every time) my wife has been in the car she doesn’t notice any extra sound. Me though, I hear it and love it. It’s subtle but there, when you put your foot into it you can hear it and it sounds great! Down shifting from say 4,3,2 the sound is infectious. I’ve been driving around a lot since the install with window down and no radio just to hear the lovely sound that much better. At the dreaded drone rpm’s for me it’s a mild hum and if I’m listening to music or traffic reports I don’t hear it. Actually my first thoughts when I started it and drove out of the shop on my merrily way was “wow this sure is a lot quieter than I thought it would be”. All in all well worth the $11 hundred(CDN) plus the $300 install fee. I am very happy with the decision and would recommend the MBRP to an Stinger owner. If you’re not convinced look in the mirror and ask yourself “is after market exhaust really for me”. Find your answer and move on. Cheers and Happy New Year.:)

It isn't much louder but acoustically there is a significant difference in cabin noise.

@yunis That said I think in a few weeks you will get used to it. I was annoyed at first but i am in tune with it now. If i went back to stock i would think the car is dead.

So I removed my OBX racing downpipes put on the stock downpipes that are catted. I don't know if I felt horsepower loss cuz I'm having such problems with misfires. but let me tell you the sound is night and day difference way better sounds like the way it should. removing the downpipes was a huge mistake the only thing I can think of that would have helped is to put long resonators on or a second set of straight through mufflers to help with it. I considered it but didn't want to throw any more money at it at the moment. You won't regret the sound it sounds just right by upgrading exhaust. The rasp is gone under cold starts and shifting through gears in drive (D) sounds just fine now before it sound like a piece of s*** Honda.

Glad you sorted it out.

I also just replaced my SSR pipes with the stock ones, you are not lying. All of the raspy humming at 2k is gone and I can actually cruise on the highway in peace now.

So has anybody added resonators to the mbrp exhaust, maybe something similar to the stock resonators. Guarantee that's going to take away the raspiness. If these resonated tips don't do it I'm going to add them I need to deepen the tone of this exhaust and subdue some of the notes when I'm in drive just puting around town it sounds like a pile of s*** Honda shifting through gears unless I'm full throttle then it sounds great. If anybody's done this pics please

I made some suggestions as to what I've used in the past but it looks like it was all deleted here. Can't blame the mods. It got messy. Lots of banter.

The short of it is, if the cats are removed, you need to install some resonators in their place. So if you go with aftermarket catless downpipes, run a pair of resonators. It'll flow better than the stock pipes w/cats but w/o the rasp.

It's not deleted. It just got split to it's own thread for a reason I am still unclear on. Congratulations on your new thread I guess. I would link it but I dont even know what its called.

Absolutely stoked. My Black Friday purchase from K8 Stinger Store is arriving today. Getting quotes to have it installed along with my exhaust tips now. If it's too much, I'll just do it myself.

It's fine. It got messy. It was to address the question of adding resonators to a setup with aftermarket secondary downpipes with a CBE.

With no secondary cats, you'll likely get more rasp. It's just life. Adding in some good flowing resonators to the secondaries will clean it up. I won't go into which. I'll leave that to whoever wants to do it to look it up. Or if anyone wants my suggestions, just PM me.

But yes, resonators in place of the secondary cats will yield higher flow (than the cats) and better sound (no rasp).
