How much did your car insurance change with the Stinger?

My rate on 2018 Kia forte5 LX was $61/month (geiko). My new rate with 2019 2L RWD Stinger is $71/month.
Thats extremely inexpensive and less than what I used to pay for just PIP insurance. What coverage do you have?

My insurance doubled adding the Stinger. Already had my Vette and a grandpa Buick on the policy + renters. Granted I do have gap coverage and new car replacement. I need to shop around because insurance is already insane in TX and this is a little ridiculous.

Early 30s. But two BS speeding tickets (right at 10 over) in the last 5 years. Never ever had an accident or claim.

$300,000 / $100,000 (personal injury / property liability) & $500 deductible.

Ah, I see your problem. You've not been driving under ten. "Nine you're fine, ten, you're mine." To keep on the safe side, I set cruise at eight over; that way, when it blips to nine over, I'm still okay: I noticed this months ago: that the Stinger's cruise will occasionally click to one MPH over the set speed, so, the blip is into "ten, you're mine" territory if you set cruise at nine over.

I drive in Texas. A caveat before i list insurance prices. My workplace pays me to drive my personal car to work, but requires me to carry much higher than normal insurance at 500k/500k plus 100k property. 2014 CR-V insurance was around 600/6mo. I got a quote from my insurance provider at the time and it came out to 1250/6mo. I shopped around and most policies were in the 950-1300 range, but i managed to find a policy for 750/6mo. When i called to cancel my coverage, my then insurance company reduced their quote to 850/6mo, but that was the best they could do. Not too bad considering my paid off CR-V was only slightly cheaper to insure.

Thats amazing and looks like I need to consider moving to Oregon.;)

I actually saw my rates drop significantly when I recently moved from a Safeco policy to a Geiko policy. I’ve also had a very clean record for the past 7 years; no tickets / no accidents / no claims and my age probably helps me .... 64 y.o. I don’t put many miles on my vehicle .... 7 miles to work & I put on 7000- 8000 miles per year.

Just added my 2019 GT2 to my State Farm policy and its costing me $170 per month with $50 comprehensive deductible and $1,000 collision deductible and $250k/$500k/$100k liability limits and $100k/$300k/$50k uninsured motor limits.

This is a policy with four autos, home insurance, and an umbrella policy.

Thankfully I got a letter today from State Farm saying after the underwriter review my policy will be $102 per month and not $170.

Wow - this thread was an eyeopener for sure. From what I can see I'm getting rung out by my insurance agent.

Policy is for $1K deductible comprehensive and collision, Liability for $100K/300/100 per person/accident/property, Uninsured for $100K/300/100, driving around 12K miles/year. I'm 34 yrs old, last at-fault accident was when I was 17. I've been with USAA since 2017 and my rate is $1,171 for 6 months! I've heard the Atlanta area having statistically higher insurance rates, but damn.

It was definitely a sticker shock coming from a 2002 Sport Trac that only cost me $45/mo (same company). I'll definitely be doing some shopping around come renewal time in April.

Good grief! That's well over twice what I pay. My last payment was well under $500 for six months.

If you're basically saying that the at-fault accident 17 years ago (34-17) is still on your record, yeah, probably look elsewhere.

I learned 4.5 years ago that USAA is expensive, not only for auto insurance but also home insurance. After I called around and a lot of insurance companies were cheaper for same coverages I stopped insuring with them.

You don't need to wait until April to switch. You can switch now if you want. USAA will refund you whatever portion of your premium you didn't use.

I mean, idk how insurance works, clearly, but I would assume a 17 yr old accident is somewhat in the past. It wasn’t even major - just a fender bender. Also, it was on my parent’s policy.
I’d be happy to consider any insurance savvy advice.
I’d love to be paying @MerlintheMad rates.

Honestly, whoever constructed the idea of insurance was a financial criminal mastermind. There are so many types of insurance (life, health, auto, home, umbrella, etc) and all of it adds up to a lot of money we spend monthly on the totality of it. I've only had one accident, like you, in the last 16 years and it was a very minor fender bender (only required probably $3,000 in payouts for both cars) yet it didn't stop them from jacking up my premium for 3 years after that. Insurers have made a ton of money off me and haven't had to pay out probably even 1/10th of what I've paid in premiums over my 18 years of driving.

That's why I have no qualms with going with whatever reputable company is cheapest for me.

I’d be happy to consider any insurance savvy advice.

Your rates have a lot to do with where you live. I live in Maryland, which by a lot of insurers I've talked to, is a notoriously expensive state to insure in because of state requirements for minimum coverage, PIP, and the high level of traffic/accident rates here.

Play around with your deductible amounts when getting insurance quotes. If you often get a lot of broken windshields (which is very common in Virginia/Maryland area) I would keep a low comprehensive deductible. If you can afford to cover $1,000 in the event of a collision, then make that your collision deductible (especially since you seem to barely be involved in accidents).

I bet simply by leaving USAA you'll get a much better deal. State Farm was much cheaper than USAA when I made the switch. I recently got an insurance quote from Allstate too, and their's was a little bit more than what I'm paying with State Farm but Allstate at least has accident forgiveness (after 5 years, or you can pay for a package level that immediately includes accident forgiveness).

I too have USAA and pay roughly the same for my car insurance (38yo male). It's unfortunate they're so expensive because they're by far the best company to deal with when you actually have a claim (never been in an accident, but I've had to replace a roof from hail, and my old apt got struck by lightning and fried a bunch of electronics).

I'll probably keep them for homeowners, but it looks like it's just too high for the stinger.

USAA is a great company when it comes to ease of claims and them paying out. But I made the decision that since I hardly ever make insurance claims that it didn't make sense for me to pay twice the amount in premiums. If I was getting in accidents often, having vehicle break ins/thefts, etc. then I would want a reputable company (not that I think State Farm, who I currently have, is not reputable).

Sounds like a HMO vs PPO kinda thing!

Personally, dropped USAA last year. Got tired of the escalating premiums for both homeowners/auto insurance. Every renewal it was the same song and dance about how the entire market went up due to claims in the region. Yet they pay out 18% Christmas bonuses to all their employees like clockwork! Don't get me wrong, it was great to deal with them when I had claims but they are by far the most expensive. I switched to MetLife for two reasons. One, a discount from my employer and two, lower premiums all around. I literally duplicated the declaration page from my policies and ended up saving about $700/year for the exact same coverage. One thing to keep in mind is USAA and other insurers typically have 6 month auto policies and they raise your premium ever time it renews. MetLife auto policy is 12 months. Just something to keep in mind.
