I'm guessing several of you are using the Stinger as a family car. How has it fared so far? We have a couple of SUVs, and I wanted to get back into a car. I have a 1-yo, and another baby on the way so I'll be fitting two car seats in back. Then there are strollers, etc. Are any of you in the same situation? How does everything fit? Any drone in the car? I'm thinking of a GT1 btw so I assume it'd be louder than the base/premium. Is there a noticeable difference between the ECS modes such that it makes the ride a little softer when the wife and kids are in the car? Thanks!

I can't speak from personal experience with car seats/strollers/etc, but I will say the back seats are very roomy and very easy to get into and out of. It has a little trouble with head room, but that wont cause any issues with car seats. I would imagine there would be no issues. Cargo space in the hatch is HUGE. 23 cubic feet, which crushes it's competitors and puts in in striking distance of some SUVs even. Strollers will not be a problem whatsoever.

Regarding drone, the Stinger does pretty OK with cabin noise, but not amazing. C&D measured it at 71 dBA, which is just slightly higher than its competitors, but still better than average.

I’ve got a GT-S in order (USA GT 2), and I took my 6 year old plus his car seat for the test drive.

However from experience of you need strollers (or as we say prams) then I think you’ll be fine with one ... but if you need room for a double or two strollers then I’d suggest a Sportage or similar/bigger.

Welcome aboard, @Speedooooo! Thank you for signing up! What are you currently driving?

I have 2 kids, one is 2 and the other is 2 weeks old. Was able to take the family for a couple rides before the newborn arrived and my 2yr old loves it. He's in a front facing car seat and has plenty of room behind the front passenger. Drone is not that noticeable and when I gun it my kid loves it and goes "vroom vroom!" and asks for more. My wife, not so much...lol

I carry a foldable stroller in the back without any issues. The only thing we haven't done is out the newborn in the back with a rear facing seat. Will try at some point but thats why we got the SUV for.

Awesome thanks!
No problem and great car. If we could get blue in the UK I would have got the exact same colour combo!

@Kia Stinger thank you for the forum! There is a lot of good information here already. I currently drive an Audi Q5 3.0T.

@iclicku thanks for the pic. I also have a massive convertible car seat like yours, but I still have it rear facing. I'm pretty sure the infant car seat is even longer than that. It seems like we'd have to put the convertible car seat behind the driver seat, and the infant car seat behind the passenger seat. It's going to be tight.

Well you do have great taste in automobiles. You're already coming from an impressive German brand so you're used to getting some of the very best. It's nice to see you're as enthusiastic about the Stinger as the rest of us - many who have also come from high quality German-engineered vehicles...

One of the main reasons I'm looking at the Stinger is due to rear seat and cargo space. My wife has the large SUV, but I am still able to fit 3 forward facing car seats in my 2013 335 sedan. It's a bit tight when I have all 3 back there (ages 2,4,6) but I rarely take all three together. Luckily my trunk is big enough to fit a foldable stroller and my hockey bag at the same time, but the hatch of the Stinger would really be helpful for Costco/Home Depot runs. It seems you should have no trouble even with a rear facing child seat on the passenger side.

Why not a family car? Tough market because most of the grocery haulers are going away from sedans to UV's (that's Utility Vehicles, NOT "sport" utility vehicles 'cuz there ain't no sport in any of them outside of the Cayenne turbo and Lambo Uris). My dilemma, until I found the Stinger, is that "touring" sedans or coupes with a bit of power and handling, were all very expensive. And while I am able to buy an "M" or "AMG" my wife would have me sleeping in the backyard for "wasting" money. She hauls groceries, I haul a$$. Stinger goes both ways.

So while the price near $50,000 is not cheap, and you can buy a couple of Kia UV's for what a Stinger costs, they are no fun for a car lover. Oh sure, you can "have fun" playing Nintendo on the LCD screen while you let the automatic cruise control drive for you. Or you can wait for the self-driving cars and let someone else drive. I'll be dead before that happens -- unless the self-driving cars can be made to drift on command.

But I digress.... I looked at a dozen potential replacements for my venerable Pontiac G8 GT. That and my GTO have lots of front seat leg room to the side. All cars can shove the seat back far enough for Shaquille O'Neal, but almost all of the newer cars have widened the center dash and console area and taken side knee room away from us 6'4"'ers. The Honda Accord came close and at my age I almost bought one, but the starter button housing has a bulge that hits me in the right knee in my preferred seating position which is a deal-breaker on long trips. And only a 2.0L turbo 255HP which is marginal, no handling package, just boring and ubiquitous.

So I looked at the Stinger. Gas mileage is not great at 25mpg highway. It requires premium fuel as all turbocharged engines. Lots of bells and whistles means risky electronic failures past warranty unless you buy thousand of dollars of extended insurance, so I always self-insure and take care of my stuff. But it's a slick ride, mid-priced above the UV's and below the AMG's, Audi's, BMW's. Kia quality control and J.D. Powers scores are at the top of the chart. It's worth one last crazy fun car before I get too old to get in and out of one.

mdlavis2 - Premium gas is recommended not required. You may loose some HP, but my understanding is the engine sets the timing when it senses regular/lower octain gas.

I'll be following this thread closely, I have an 8 month old and a Mazda CX-5 was at the top of the list until I read about the stinger last year. I really don't care to drive a (mid-sized) SUV daily if I can avoid it.

A test drive of the stinger only confirmed that the stinger really ticks all the boxes for me.

Anyone have a convertible seat set to rear-facing in the back of the stinger?

I wonder if the stinger can do 3 across seats (not that I need to at this stage.)

As for trunk space for the stroller, getting a compact stroller is cheaper and better than buying a large car just so you can shop at costco. Babyzen yoyo+ is meant for travelling, and it works perfectly well for urban trips.
