Frameless Auto Dimming and Universal Remote Rear View Mirror

At a recent auto show, I saw frameless rear view mirrors in Nissan Altimas and I wanted one for the Stinger.

I installed the frameless auto dimming and universal remote mirror below into the Stinger today. It was $90 on Amazon. It's sold under the Chamberlain brand (model TM210) and the Brandmotion brand (model 1110-2521). It's also sold as an OEM accessory by Nissan.

The Stinger has the standard wedge mirror mount. Any mirror with a wedge mount should fit. The picture below is the pin-out for the Stinger mirror connector.

The new mirror is smaller and less clunky than the OEM mirror.

Other frameless mirrors include the Gentex ones.

I just had to tap into ignition (pin 6) and ground (pin 8) wires to power the auto dimming. Not too difficult.

Hmm. Definitely worth looking into - really don't like the OEM "we added 90% more frame over any other car out there" mirror..

Doesn't your OEM mirror already include Homelink? My GT1 does..

No, in Canada the 2018 had two trim levels for the 3.3TT, GT base and GT premium. Mine is the base GT which means my mirror has a couple of options but it's missing the most important one for me, homelink.

I still have this mirror in the car. Remote and autodimming work great. No issues.

FWIW, The Rostra mirrors are literally plug and play. Same connector, same pinout. They're tougher to find but good stuff. Hint: You have to go to the old catalogs and search for old stock for the full featured ones.

Can you expand on this a little more? Rostra doesn't have anything listed on their site for the Stinger. What model would be plug-and-play? All of them? Which model are you talking about / where does one get the old catalogs?

All the pictures I see of the 250-8709 call it "frameless", yet show a bezel. How does that work?

How do the side dimming mirrors function? They use the sensor in the stock rear-view mirror.

The outline around the glass is the auto-dimming portion of the glass. You can thank electrochromic glass design for this. It’s a feature, not a bug.

A bezel is what you have around your current mirror. The glass slots into black plastic that is molded around the glass (i.e., bezel).

Some vendors design the bezel such that it is thick enough to slot the electrochromic glass into without the outline showing. However, if you want edge-to-edge and no bezel that’s the trade off.

Why is this the case? Well electrochromic is a thin film that alters optical transmissivity. Therefore, the film cannot be applied to the entire mirror and have it properly adhere to the stringent uses of mirrors.

If you don’t want that, which comes with all auto-dimming mirrors (look closely at your side view mirrors and you’ll notice the same thing) then pickup a mirror that doesn’t auto-dim. There are many edge-to-edge mirrors that do not auto-dim and thus are not electrochromic...and they’re cheaper. Tint the back window and there’s your auto-dim.

OP can you clarify if the side mirrors still dim? I haven't installed mine yet and want to know if I will lose the side mirror diming...

Dimming side mirrors are independent of the rear view mirror.

Ugh...my pin config is totally different than the one pictured above and I don't have access to a multimeter. I have wires running to 8 of 10 pins...
