Early results so far show that few to any are leaving a luxury brand for a KIA Stinger. IMO, it shows that their marketing plan isn't quite working yet. Maybe things will pickup after the SuperBowl?

For me, I'm still holding out for things to settle down....

Patients is a virtue! I bit the dust after the test drive!

To me marketing or no marketing it is the experience I am after... we have to make sure our hard earn $$$ are spent for our personal pleasure and enjoyment and the hype on this "halo" car leaves up to what is expected.

Was considering a 540i M sport however after a long test drive of 2 hours on the Stinger I walked out astonish on the dynamics of the car considering it not exactly being compact!

My personal findings:
Build Quality: Well build(rattle and squeak free) reasonably insulated, low wind and road noise, being functional with what being offered and the driving position is almost almost spot on take note I am in a right hand drive country and I believe the main market or focus of this car is for left hand drive. Not luxurious by any stretch and its not trying thats what I like!

Technology: Can be improve and probably 1 generation behind the pack however what is required for being a daily driver and an enthusiasts car its suffice and do excel in certain areas. Importantly the shortcoming does not distract the driving experience. The current generation of cars are impressive however the level of customisation and info is overwhelming which at times do distract the driving experience being an enthusiast car. Its probably more a showcase to passengers and other makers and taking note at the expense of our ownership costs.

Driving: The magical part which I notice during the test drive was that the size of the vehicle "shrunk" "mentally" and at no time I felt it was like a barge or anything pointing towards the physique of the car. That says alot and some of the roads I drove was a dual carriageway with few feet to spare from the edge of the drains while overtaking slower vehicles probably due to the efficiency amd execution of the drivetrain, steering feedback and chassis dynamics. Its not about the the absolute numbers but the feel and confidence which this vehicle inspires. If higher entry speeds are carried in the bends 1st thing last minute throttle lift off do unsettle the tail however can be corrected easily with some minor steering and throttle input. I do have a strong crunch it was deliberate as it gives you a sense of playfulness in the chassis. Personally I do like this! Power is as expected but the transmission being fully develop in house by Hyundai/ Kia is surprisingly smooth and decisive! Only gripe is the lack of full manual as the pedal shift do revert to auto if I recall 10 seconds or so. Next the engine note or speaker generated downshift in manual should be made more audible as I do realise its not really prominent when downshifting is induce. Which is a bit of guesswork unless I am looking down at the instrument panel.

Design: IMHO it is probably one of my personal favourite being it a GT car, sedan as of current crop of cars. I find the design being athelethic, elegant, and almost perfectly executed and balance from all angles...despite design improvement can be done on the tail lamps!

The total ownership costs to fun factor, warranty and the reliability index of Kia sealed the deal!
What did you buy ? Thanks

Thank you for the comparison, @Dennis. And congratulations on your brand new Stinger GT! :) What did you have before?

Let's make it easy to see where Stinger buyers came from. I'm only going to list the mainstream luxury brands but if I miss one, please let me know...
I would consider a Ford King Ranch a luxury! Ford is a large dealer here in USA.

Ok please explain why. The post did not say car, truck, or sports car. My 2004 came with most of the same options as my Stinger. That year had better leather. However, now their leather has changed. Cost more love my F250. Heated mirrors, seates, ect...The King Ranch is a luxury full size truck.

Ford is not a Luxury brand , they have designated Lincoln as the brand to challenge that segment , whether its a car , truck or sport car it doesnt matter .

The King Ranch IS pretty much a full size luxury truck. That I don't disagree with. However, going from a Ford to a Kia isn't considered a "conquest" (by Kia) - but as mentioned, Lincoln would be. Kia would be proud to have brought over a Lincoln buyer - but Ford - not as much. The same would go for Chevy, Buick, Toyota, Honda, etcetera...

I would say that it may have a host of luxury features as do several other non luxury brands but putting lipstick on a pig...............well you get my point .;);)

With how far down their sales were last year, I would assume Kia would be happy to take a customer from any other brand..

I well I guess, if you want to put it that way. Maybe KIA would not call it a Conquest. One reason KIA may not feel that way is do to the two's connections. Let us not forget that FORD at one time owned 51% of KIA.

So, Westcoast, I guess if Ford is a pig in around about way KIA is just a piglet! Ford had a lot to do with KIA' s mass production ;) ;)

I'll let you think about that a bit more .........................and you know what they say about wrestling said animal !:)

I guess it could technically be seen as a conquest either way because when all is said and done - they just drove a customer away from one brand into their own. However, many (if not most) brands offer discounts for people who come from other luxury brands. I don't really see that happening when you come from a more mainstream vehicle like Buick, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, etcetera. But when you come from, say, Cadillac or BMW - they often offer a special discount...

Kia gave me 500 bucks when I bought my optima because I owned a Nissan Altima.

Which we were very brand loyal. 2 King Ranches, 1 F-250 Lariat, 1 reg. F250, 7.0, Probe, Mustang

Now lets see if KIA can keep me. Well, I will say, on trucks they do not have a chance bc KIA does not offer. Guess I am just happy that two of our f-250's are still running. One is a 2004 the other 1997. I dont want them to die but, if they did, they were good trucks. I don't expect to get all the miles and use out of the Stinger bc it is a gas burner and the trucks are diesels. However, would like 8-10 years from this KIA.
