Front camera cracked

Mine is chipped from all the highway driving I do. Only replacement I have found is a complete camera swap and that is pricey.

Wow, never even thought of that hazard. But, as long as you can SEE enough to get the job done, don't worry about it.

(edit to ask: isn't there a cover over the actual camera lens? And if not, WHY NOT!? Replacing a cover would be peanuts compared to a whole lens/camera)

Yeah, going leave as is. Its doesnt effect the view. Wonder if the cover len could be replace.

That's the first thing I'd check - why replace the whole thing for simply a cracked lens? It may not be built for easy replacement, but I'm sure you could find a way to sever it from the camera body with the right tools.

Just make sure that you get the same type of lens for a replacement, so the image seen by the car's systems is the same.

Would PPF help prevent damage to the lens? That's been one of my biggest concerns with front end sensors is rocks and stuff damaging the radar, the camera, or the parking sensors.

Can you PPF over any of those? I know the owner's manual says not to obstruct the radar sensor with anything, but shouldn't vinyl be transparent to radar?

I feel like the ultrasonic parking sensors would actually be impaired by sticking vinyl over them, since it could dampen their ability to vibrate.

For the camera, as long as the vinyl was optically clear, you should be able to cover it and add just that little bit of extra protection.

Thoughts?

Adding PPF wouldn't be an appreciable protection, imho.

I don't have a GT2, and I have not examined the camera/sensor plate up close. But the OP pic shows it clearly: the clear plate took a hit right on the edge of the camera lens cover and chipped the cover behind the plate. The actual lens is still unobstructed. Should either the plate or lens cover require replacement, that would mean a part or parts ordered, then put in at the dealer. Neither would be part of the warranty coverage, since it is natural attrition from the road.

A rock cracked front camera on my GT2 today. Wondering if lens on the camera is glued in. The only "workaround" that comes to my head is to use a clear resin that is used to repair cracked windshields and a vacuum chamber. I am not looking for crystal clarity so i might give it a shot. New lenses are 400 and used ones are in the 300 range.

Would this be covered under warranty?
More probably covered by insurance.
A cracked glass should not be a warranty related problem. Unless it cracked on its own, but that's highly unlikely.

My front camera already has a few chips and nics, never would have thought they cost $500 to replace. I swear if you assembled a stinger piece by piece you'd be out $250k

I've seen camera lens protectors for phones, they're like $5, but might interfere with the sensors...

Same problem. Did you end up trying to install this?

The site says backup camera. Did Kia use the same camera for the front?

My car is fully wrapped in PPF, including the camera, and sensors. Offers decent protection.
