• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

For a while now, my coasting in eco mode hasn't worked. It just doesn't engage. To be honest I haven't done any diagnostics yet but I've turned it on and off through the menu a few times to no avail.

Something I'm missing or forgetting?? Are there certain requirements for coasting to kick in? Like temp, speed, fuel capacity etc.. ?

Speed requirement is 35 MPG or above but usually doesn't kick it unless you're like 40+. No idea about temp but I'd think the engine has to be up to temperature and not overheating or too cold. It kind of has a mind of its own like the ISG feature. I usually can start coasting if I just let off the gas going 50-60+ for like a few seconds after driving normally for 5 miles or so.

Well, look at the illustration you provided: that is not a COASTER!? You need a stock Stinger in order to coast effectively. :P

Threads without pictures suck. I searched for eco coast mode and that's what came up.

I use eco on the freeway all the time. You'd be pretty dunce to keep it in sport cruising at 100kmh on the freeway.

It's worked before consistently.. But during winter and now into spring it's stopped. That's why I was wondering about temps and other conditions it must meet before it disengages.

Weird.

Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe try driving a few days in smart mode and see if it'll turn on then? Otherwise, I'd bring it into the shop but you should refer to your manual first to see what the exact conditions are.

Coast for longer periods of time. It needs a certain speed and a certain duration. Do 2 or 3 long duration coasts in ECO or Smart mode in a row. It will eventually turn on as long as you have it enabled in the menu.

mine has also stopped working. it used to work. just like the auto start stop used to work.
coasting hasnt work in a long time for me; it just quit doing it.
maybe i dont drive the car enough.

I have it in on eco mode many times, especially on the highway and the coasting function is enabled. How does one know when the vehicle is coasting?

the display where the gauges are, tells you it is coasting when it engages.

I don't think I've seen the coasting icon displayed.
i believe it pops up and says "Coasting", or "Coasting Mode" or something like that, i think its just "Coasting"

Have never had that indicator show up.
Strange, although in Eco it does feel like the TC is decoupled from the tranny.

For the coasting to work, the car has to be up to temp.
Also try switching the drive mode to sport for a little bit then back to eco. Works for me

For those of you with this feature ECO-Coasting - the exact requirements are listed below.
Cheers

Eco-Coasting operation conditions

The Eco-Coasting system is activated when the accelerator pedal is depressed and released under the following conditions.

  • When the driving mode is ECO mode.
  • When driver acceleration is SMART ECO in SMART mode.
  • When the shift lever is in the D (Drive) position.
  • When Cruise Control/Smart Cruise Control button is OFF.
  • The accelerator or brake pedal is not depressed.
  • When the vehicle speed is within the range of 55 km/h (34 mph) to 160 km/h (100 mph).
  • If the road gradient is within the range of -5% to +5%.
  • In SMART mode, if the distance between the vehicle ahead and the relative speed is within a certain range (if the Smart Cruise system is equipped)
❈ If the front radar for smart cruise system cannot operate normally, the inter-vehicle distance and relative speed condition are automatically ignored.

❈ The Eco-Coasting system works after the engine is turned on, the transmission is warmed up, and the engine sensor selfdiagnosis is completed after starting.

❈ Depending on the driving situation, Eco-Coasting operation may be temporarily delayed even if the above conditions are met.

The Eco-Coasting system release conditions

The Eco-Coasting system will be automatically released when the following conditions are met.

  • When the drive mode is COMFORT or SPORT mode.
  • In SMART mode, when driver acceleration is SMART COMFORT or SMART SPORT.
  • When using the paddle shift of the steering wheel.
  • When the Cruise Control/Smart Cruise Control button is on (The

    /CRUISE indicator is on.).
  • When pressing the accelerator pedal or brake pedal.
  • When the vehicle speed is outside the rage of 55 km/h (34 mph) to 160 km/h (100 mph).
  • Road inclination is less than -5% or exceeds +5%.
  • In SMART mode, if the headway distance to the vehicle ahead is too close of the relative speed changes momentarily (if the smart cruise control system is equipped)
  • If lane change is predicated in SMART mode (LKA warning by turn signal lamp operation or steering wheel).
❈ It is recommended to turn off the Eco-Coasting system in the driving condition where frequent acceleration or deceleration is repeated.

Change the drive mode to COMFORT or SPORT mode, or disable Eco-Coasting mode on the AVN screen.

I was in ECO once, won’t be making that silly mistake again.

do you guys let your car warm up before using sport; like, how long do you drive around before you use sport?

Many people just switch to sport immediately. There is nothing in the manual about waiting before switching drive modes.
Some install the mode memory module so it's in sport when they start the car - Stinger.Store

I just try to keep the revs below 3000 until the Oil Temperature gauge is past the word OIL, which is a while after the water temperature is almost up to normal. Just trying to look after my turbos :)
