When in the Custom Drive mode, under the AWD setting, there are 3 sub settings to choose from. Eco, Comfort, and Sport. I presume these change the power ratio of the front and rear wheels. I presume Sport would be 80% to the rear wheels. What is the front/rear percentage ratio for Eco and Comfort? Am I correct in stating that these AWD settings change the power ratio?

You are correct and these settings do change the power ratio. I believe it’s a 40/60 split on comfort and 20/80 on Eco and Sport. I know certain modes can transfer up to 50/50 depending on traction, but not sure what the difference between sport and eco would be...

Curious myself if anyone knows why they have 3 AWD settings if eco and sport are both the same rear bias? Are there other differences between these settings?

There are other things that change with the driver mode. The steering assist is less in Sport mode (heavier feel.) Suspension stiffens up in Sport mode. Transmission shift points are different in Sport and Eco. Don't worry so much about the power bias because the computer will do what is needed under various power and road conditions.

Thanks for your input. Still ... just want to know, specifically, how the subsettings in custom mode under AWD affect the AWD system.

I'm still playing around with the custom mode and just about everything set to sport except for the steering. Switched it over to the steering in normal mode and engine and transmission In Eco-comfort , everything else in sport. Have a lot of twisty roads around here feels a lot better in this setting and not sucking up a lot of gas. And when I want it or when I need it there is ALWAYS SPORT on demand

KIA needs a seperate manual just for the drive mode settings! Explanations in the main manual are crap!:laugh:

I’m gonna be that arse hole to bring back a dead thread.

in the custom drive mode menu for 18 gt2 awd, there are 3 options.

sport (assume 80:20)
Comfort
Eco

If comfort and eco are both 60:40 (or both 50:50), why would they include options for both?

Can’t someone who knows a Kia engineer find the hell out?

And why wouldn’t they just label them the actual rear/front bias values.

Dammit. Aaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh.

Wouldn't an eco mode be more biased towards an 80:20 split? I'm not an expert on this sort of thing by any means but it seems like any eco mode in an AWD vehicle tries to send the majority of the drive to one set of wheels.

I've also always wondered why they never put in a drive mode for snow or slippery conditions. Does anyone know if the newer models have something like this?

That is what Smart Mode is for. The sensors determine how you are driving and gauge output to shocks, brakes and power accordingly for the immediate future. In other words, if you are driving like a wise grandpa/ma because of a fear of ice, and using steering and brakes sparingly, Smart Mode will help with that by anticipating your next moves. The manual says: "Smart mode selects the proper driving mode among ECO, COMFORT and SPORT by judging the driver's driving habits (i.e. mild or dynamic) from the brake pedal depression or the steering wheel operation." So, when you use Smart Mode during slippery conditions, the car should respond according to your driving "style" and enter the drive mode most suitable to meet slippery conditions: which, I take it, would be a combination of Eco and Comfort.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I've been using smart mode more frequently now rather than ECO.

you would think with "Smart Mode" being so smart...why wouldn't the make that the default instead of normal...
Or at least let us select which mode we want as default...

"Normal", or Comfort, is the default MPG setting. But you can default to Eco instead. Either setting will default at startup. I guess the reason why Smart isn't a third option is because Sport can be hit in Smart mode (albeit very briefly), and that messes with the official MPG figures. In order to publish the somewhat optimistic MPG figures for the Stinger, it had to default to the more fuel efficient drive modes on startup.

I can totally get that, but the MGP are based on a specific configuration during testing. If the Owner wants to change the configuration to be something else altogether by default, and they give you that ability to easily switch configurations, it should be just as simple as setting your default to something other then eco or comfort...

Could you please tell me who you are? "Guest" is too opaque.

Deliberate opting for a different default startup mode is reasonable. It could/should be done in the Settings. Maybe Kia will do that in the future?

At least you have CUSTOM mode. In PL we get:
SMART, ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, SPORT+ (which I think only turns off traction control as compared to Sport).
I'd prefer to have CUSTOM where I can set stuff how I like...

I’ve got a ticket open with KIA for the exact rear:front ratio for the US market 3 options.

im sure they’ll jump right in answering it.

For some fun you can read this:

The splits are just starting points anyway--the car dynamically varies the F:R balance as driving conditions and throttle and brake inputs are processed. But sport is closer to a traditional RWD feel. I am also interested to know the exact splits in all modes.

The link doesn't work for me, forum shows ERROR after I open it.

On the topic I heard opinion that SPORT+ also locks differential in EU version. I couldn't find any confirmation of this though.

That would make sense. Another reason to be disappointed for those of us who do not get SPORT+ or a real (mechanical locking) diff.

And sorry about link--I tried again, but apparently this site will not allow a cross-link to a "competitor" forum where there is a similar conversation topic :(
